We’ll maybe not that far, but clearly reset to year 1 with the cupboard nearly bare.
Shocking watching it that the foundation is nearly gone. Shocking Capel was nowhere near ready. Christ Almighty the whole thing needs reevaluated. It’s a ****ing pickle for Heather et al. Sorry

And its sooooo easy to win in college basketball. You need a coach and 3 players. You couldn't have done a worse job picking the last 2 HC's. Stallings was an average coach (nowhere near as bad as people made him out to be) but was a terrible fit. Capel appears to be a truly terrible coach.

There are definitely similarities to the post-Sherrill football era... Except, where the basketball program is concerned, we had a different order and followed Sherrill immediately with Majors II, then Hackett. Honestly, we never learn from our past mistakes. Nor do the bigger donors who influence the hiring/firing, and often think they have all the answers.

"So easy to win" yet conference wins are a finite resource...someone has to lose and you can't play Boston College 20 times in a season (I'm not excusing how bad we've been for at least 6 years now, just dislike this logic.)

Pitt football hired Foge, Gottfried, Hackett and then Coach Majors came back a second time. It wasn't until Coach Harris came in a brought the program back a ways to be competitive again.

So we're looking at another 10 years of this? Great

And yet SHU, Providence, and Rutgers are good at basketball and even PSU had a few good years at the end of Chambers. BC and DePaul are special cases. Everyone else takes turns going to the NCAAT

The problem is that you think it’s a “down year or two”…then another…then another…and then it just becomes what you are. I remember finally coming to that realization in 1993.

I never thought that could happen in hoops because the facilities situation was much different, as was the ability to create an elite home environment.

But I agree we are in a danger zone. Facilities age, and without winning, the atmosphere dies. Our 2000’s tradition gets a little lost in the ACC as well, since our success was so much at the conference level.

So like the 90’s, the old era is over. Need to create new success and build on it.
