I’ll admit this is an overreaction to this poor 1st half against Robert Morris coming off a home loss to Nicholls State.
And I AM NOT calling for Jeff Capel to be fired.
I hope he is the coach here for a long time.
But my problem is, I think you can see we still need better talent. And I don’t think this staff is capable of overachieving with less talent in the way that Jamie could.
Therefore, we NEED to recruit better. I don’t know whether that’s on Jeff, the assistants (which is also on Jeff), or what, but we have to do a better job than we’ve done.
And spare me all those excuses. That 2017 season feels like a decade ago under a different coach. Programs of Pitt’s caliber all over the country are landing top talent. Every time we lose out on an RJ, Earl, etc, our return to national prominence is being delayed. Jeff was brought here to recruit talent, he needs to get it done. No more excuses.
