Double cover the guy, bump him off the line and do not allow him to get a free release.
Mitchell was lining up 18 yards deep and backing up all game long. Gronk catching the ball 20 yards down the middle should never have happened. Mitchell backed up so far he couldn’t come up fast enough.Double cover the guy, bump him off the line and do not allow him to get a free release.

Couldn’t agree more. But hey I am not the coach. They know more than you or me because they are paid millions therefore are smarter...Double cover the guy, bump him off the line and do not allow him to get a free release.
Couldn’t agree with you more. There were at least 2 or 3 of those long pass completions where they gave you a good view where you could see Mitchell sitting out there in centerfield at the beginning of the play and just keep backpedaling to where he was a complete non factor. Man defense was the way to go but you need to get some help from the safety, particularly with Gronk.Mitchell was lining up 18 yards deep and backing up all game long. I thought Mike Hilton covered him best. He’s really quick and has great ball skills.
Hilton is an emerging star, or starter at least
Next year will be his breakout season.
yes, Belichick and Brady would be befuddled by this strategy and never, never be able to make the adjustment to weakened coverage elsewhere. Why they didn’t double Gronk is beyond me.

the point is that the Steelers are the Pat's beyotches so do what you will as it will not make a difference as they are two steps ahead of the Tomlin the cheerleader...Gronk was not beating them in the first half, why its, its, its almost like the Past schemed for him to dominate in the second half as they would have schemed to go elsewhere had the Steelers changed things up. Does not matter. They cannot and will not beat these guys.but isn't that the point? To make someone other than Gronk beat you?

yes, they have had the officials in their pocket for a decade of Steeler beatdowns. every one...come on man! I think it is a lot more fun just to blame the Penn State kid with Sandusky lube on his fingers for not simply holding on to a ball that was in his hands through the process ( not to mention the ridiculous overturning of the touchdown. the overturning was not ridiculous, the rule is ridiculous. had they not followed it one might say they were in the steelers pockets). Probably one of those things that Belichick's staff puts emphasis on while Tomlin rah rahs... .....Not sure how you can make that assessment after watching yesterday's game. They clearly lucked out in winning the game hell the game winning interception should have been nullified by pass interference on the New England defender. Not to mention the ridiculous overturning of the touchdown.
Is that what you meant by "two steps ahead of Tomlin"? Having the officials and the NFL in their back pocket? 2 penalties for FOUR YARDS?
If the Steelers would have double covered Gronk, Brady would have found someone else. And he would have.

James HarrisonI like the original post. "Bump him off the line"
who the eff is going to bump gronkowski off the line?

yep, its a conspiracy I tells ya! Still have not figured out how they got Jesse James in on it though and how any of that tin foil hat crap translates in the Patriots manhandling the Steelers on the scoreboard every game...Have you forgotten Spygate? And the NFL quickly destroying the evidence?
You take away their biggest threat, and take your chances elsewhere. If the Steelers would have double covered Gronk, Brady would have found someone else. And he would have.
Different matchup with Haden in the game. You can throw Burns on him in the playoffs. I think they should treat him like LeBeau treated fitz in the super bowl. Have Debo and Polamalu smash him at the line every play.
You've just revealed yourself to not being a Pitt fan. Every true Pitt fan knows that Mike Ditka is - without question - the best tight end ever.gronk is the best tight end ever

Larry had 7 catches for 127 yards and 2 TD’s in Super Bowl. This is too funny!

Meaning he had 63 on 6 catches for a TD before a big play was hit. Ya, i’ll take that kind of control over a dominant player every Sunday.
In a nutshell....And what makes you think a big play wouldn’t be hit with Gronk? Steelers contained Gronk in first half then got destroyed in 2nd half. Steelers won SB because of James Harrison’s pick six. If it wasn’t for that play Fitz would have been SB MVP
Meaning he had 63 on 6 catches..or the equivalent of 1,000 yard season pace, but alas cherry picking is easier. Should have just gone with "he had two catches for 16 yards" before he got those other catches...Santonio Holmes was 5 for 58 in that game, until he wasn't on the last drive.Meaning he had 63 on 6 catches for a TD before a big play was hit.
