Steph Curry

The dude was knocking down 30+ footers like they were foul shots. Clutch shots as well.

He's only good because he's not playing in the 60's with Oscar Robertson and his friends playing defense on him.

God I effing hate the washed up old guys talking about how awesome the game was back in their day.

I hate young whippersnappers that are special pampered and soft. thankfully my kids are not like that. respect the past. Oscar was incredible then and would be in the MVP conversation today, though Curry would win it.

I get the whole "respect the past" thing, but the difference in size and athleticism in today's game is incredibly stark compared to past years. And, that's to say nothing about the offensive and defensive complexities in today's game as a result of those differences in size and athleticism. For anybody to act like today's athletes wouldn't flat out dominate previous eras is just ridiculous. I agree with the NBA guys trashing Oscar -- at some point "respect your elders" reaches a point where the stuff they're saying is too stupid to deserve automatic deference.

I mean, Oscar Robertson was great because he was a 6'5" guard. At the time, that was incredible. And that doesn't denigrate what he accomplished. But that's more or less average height for a guard these days in the NBA. Sure, Oscar was phenomenal for his time, but is he really THAT special in today's game? Is he going to be able to rebound in a time where EVERY PF and C is at least 6'9"?

It's akin to Ozzie Smith saying the other day that hitters today aren't as skilled as guys in the past when it comes to beating shifts. A guy like Gerrit Cole in today's game throws his changeup at the same speed that one of the flamethrowers of yesteryear threw his fastball. Baseball America tweeted out a page from one of their annuals about how they used to give special acknowledgments to guys who threw 90 MPH. Jeff Locke averages around 91 MPH on his fastball and is considered a soft-tossing finesse pitcher. Sports today are just different, and to act like players were better previously without acknowledging the physical differences is totally disingenuous.

Edit: I'll even go on record now -- I grew up with Michael Jordan. He's incredible. Amazing. My favorite player ever. Saved our entire human species by beating the aliens in Space Jam (and I'll forever be indebted to him for that). But LeBron James is the greatest, most physically gifted, and talented basketball player I have ever witnessed.

Watched the game in a bar where there were a bunch of bandwagon semi-obnoxious Warriors fans, so I was hoping the Thunder would pull it out. Should've known better, Curry freaking unbelievable.

Apparently Steph Curry is a ridiculously nice person as well. Knew a manager who was somewhat tight with Jason Richards when Richards was a video guy. Curry was in New York to play the Knicks when Pitt was in New York for a Tourney, and my buddy got to meet him at the team hotel through Jason Richards. Curry ate all of the cookies they had ordered to their room, but other than that the manager said he was one of the most nice people he'd ever met. You'd never guess he was in the NBA from his demeanor.

Steph is so good you would think he never misses. Every time he shoots you just assume his shot is going to fall. From anywhere. It has to be demoralizing to other teams.

But KD was trading shots with him at the end and seemed to take it personally. That 3 at the end of regulation was clutch. If he backs away from A.Ig. he locks it down for OKC. It's a shame he fouled out in OT but that's the way it goes sometimes. That game was as close to playoff basketball as you'll get in the regular season.

That was a supremely entertaining game. Curry is just unreal. I hope GS wins 73. I loved the shot Kerr took at Big O after the game.

On a semi-related note, has anyone noticed that, relative to other stars (LeBron, especially) Durant gets a big pass as a superstar?

I would take Michael Jordan over Lebron every day and twice on Sunday. Killer instinct that Lebron doesn't have enough of.

That appeared to be a bad ankle injury Curry suffered in the third quarter. The GS bandwagon fans must have been holding their collective breaths. The Curry backstory is probably the best behind Larry Bird's when only looking at superstars.

I remember when he declared for the NBA I thought there was no way this man who looks like a boy could keep up with the best in the world. Wrong again!

Ok? So would everyone else. Not sure what this has to dow with Curry, Durant, or Lebron.

The funny thing is that for most of Robertson's career the NBA was notorious for not playing any defense at all. It's one of the reasons why scoring was so high back then.

The elite guys from back then would still mostly be very good players, although only a handful would still be elite. Actually, frontcourts in the NBA are smaller than they were from the 70s to the 90s. The era of the elite 7 foot center seems to have come to an end. Guys from the 80s on up could certainly play at a high level today though.
