This article about the child molestation that occurred for years in Altoona bares striking similarities to what happened at UPS. The institutional power and need to keep the institution from getting a black eye is what drove the cover up and cooperation of the Authorities.

Somehow the JOEBOTs will twist this into a saga of how others got off scott free and UPS/JOEPA was persecuted unfairly or worse yet, how this proves Joe was just an innocent bye stander.

In the scope of things, the opinion of Penn State fans means very little. It's a hell hole of delusion and visions of grandeur up there. Guys like John Zigler rub the names of victims through the mud to discredit those who were raped...all to protect the reputation of a coach who failed innocent children.

It sounds like that whole area was a cesspool. Second Mile, Penn St Football, and the Diocese all covering up pedophilia. Disgusting.

There's one particularly interesting quote from the article:

"It’s a question that has been asked about other abuse cases in other parts of the country. Mr. DerOhannesian and Jennifer Marsh, vice president of victim services for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, said institutional leaders and civil authorities have a record of closing ranks when special interests, such as churches and college athletic programs, are threatened."

Really? Who would have guessed?

Our pastor at Sts John and Paul gave a great homily today about the news this week in Altoona and that everyone involved are responsible, especially those at the highest levels. Anyways, he referenced the movie "Spotlight" and asked how many had seen it. He said he really liked the movie a lot and then talked about the scene in the bar and how well done it was with the PSU football game on in the background since the parallels are so similar. I have to wonder how many PSU fans that probably angered.

It is a culture of inbred ignorance, hero cult worship and crime. May God Bless all the victims, may God's perfect justice annihilate the criminals, tormentors and apologists. And may the future for The Catholic Church and Penn State University change for the better. I know Pope Francis is moving swiftly to disgorge the criminals in the church. Who is doing what at psu? And who will be judged in finality? God forgive them all.

Yeah, the wife and I rented Spotlight last night and the parallels were striking between the institutions that are the Catholic Church in Boston and Penn State football in Central PA.

Troubling to be sure.

NO!!! We couldn't get there today, caring for my Mother-in-law. Fr. Mac = best priest I've ever known. Might be on the webby.

Got a standing O. At 7:30 AM that's saying a lot.

Agree about Fr. Mac. So blessed we've kept him this long. The sky's the limit for that guy.

I found myself off Henderson Avenue in Washington PA on Friday when I glanced at a football field in the middle of an industrial area. It was Sandusky field. Was that his Dad?
Look for the PG to be all over this one.

As a survivor of the Catholic church abuse scandal in the 80s in Pittsburgh, I can attest that the movie is extremely accurate, especially how it depicts the grooming process.

Jerry's parents ran a youth athletic club in Washington Pa, similar to the boys and girls clubs. That's probably where young Jerry got his start.

Vinnie, I apologize if you've noted this before, but I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope you were able to find some peace with the right help. I was very moved by the fact that our priest spoke as frankly as he did today and that he agreed the movie was well done. I imagine it would be easy to just ignore the film given his profession, but he tackled it head on. What I liked was that it wasn't preachy in any way - just presented the facts and told the story. Didn't hurt that the actors did a terrific job too.

Yeah. Father Mac seems decent enough. But I can't trust that organization. It robbed me and thousands of others of our Spirit. I forgive, however.

Sounds like, from what you wrote, he was rationalizing. Very Penn State like.

It's natural for the family to cover up for father O'Malley, Jerry, uncle Fred, aunt Marge, you name them.

Look at what's happing in Altoona. It's still going on. Very sad.

Stay tuned.

Then I did a bad job. He didn't rationalize as much as he pointed out how endemic this issue is and how aggressive we must be. He also talked at length about the Dallas Diocese who took a very firm stand on this after the news of Boston was made public. Basically in Dallas if there is even 1 complaint filed, the priest is immediately relieved of all duties and is reported to the local authorities. He talked about the risk of unfounded claims and future reputation, but said that is where we are at and our priorities must be to protect.

Dallas seems to be the exception that proves the cover up rule.

Regarding unfounded claims, for every one of those, there has been 1000 unreported over the years.

When reputation is discussed, brought up or inferred, penn state joe bots come to mind.

Really hoping that some of these community "leaders" and law enforcement personnel are brought up on charges. Also, can't the AG's office treat the diocese as an organized crime syndicate?
Until the Legislature change the Statue of Limitation not much can be done, and the Legislature Leaders seem to be lacking the courage to do it since it will open more Civil Lawsuits Awards and Settlements to Philadelphia Diocese, Altoona-Johnstown Diocese, Penn State and others organizations beyond the SOL.

So you know and I will share it, right now there are over 7,600 Abuse Cases filed against the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican is working on them to resolve these tragedies. Unfortunately, there have also been proven prior and current false complaints and although in far small numbers often cloud the pursuit of justice? Social Media is changing the way the people believe and behave faster than before but still takes time.

However, you have hit upon RICO and Link below for you. Good post by you!
Excerpt & Link:

RICO law refers to the prosecution and defense of individuals who engage in organized crime. In 1970, Congress passed the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act in an effort to combat Mafia groups. Since that time, the law has been expanded and used to go after a variety of organizations, from corrupt police departments to motorcycle gangs. RICO law should not be thought of as a way to punish the commission of an isolated criminal act. Rather, the law establishes severe consequences for those who engage in a pattern of wrongdoing as a member of a criminal enterprise.

On glaring difference at least on a personal level....I am a Roman Catholic. I am a practicing Roman Catholic today. I grew up in Johnstown and was an altar boy for six years....It is my wish that all these priests and especially the Bishops rot in hell. It is my want that all involved (including law enforcement and lay persons) be arrested and put in jail if possible. There is no truth out there other than vileness. I accept the slings and arrows of anger directed towards my beloved faith even though it is not the faith that is the problem and stay silent when confronted by detractors. If we (Catholics) did nothing we deserve it and if we in some lame way try to justify it we are idiots…....

Now substitute Penn State fan for Catholic above and you will see how rare these types of sentiments are for the crew up there....
