Style of offense

What exactly is our style of offense?
In every televised game so far this year the announcers (all different pairs) have posed that same query. There is no discernible identity. And they have all noted that the Pitt offense can’t seem to find any rhythm or flow. Which goes directly to the game plan and play calling.

Stop this garbage. No, he wasn't but the scheme that Cignetti implements does not put the players in a good position to succeed.

It is a terrible scheme that minimizes talent.
Quit trying to act like you know what you're talking about. You don't know anything about offensive coordinator scheme, what Cignetti's scheme is, or what they game planned during the week. In fact, 99% of posters on this board don't know, so quit trying to act like you have any clue what you're talking about.

The offense stunk, period. There were many reasons for that, but the buck stops at the top with the HC and OC.

Slovis would have been benched if Patti was healthy.

I would have benched Slovis after the pick. Nate now has experience.

It doesn't have rhythm or flow. Some of it probably is game planning and play caling. After a rewatch of Saturday night's shit show, it seems to be a combination of a lot of things. All of them reared their ugly head Saturday night.

There were plays where Slovis made perfect throws that were drops. Other plays where he had guys open and either didn't see them or was too afraid to make the throw - others where recievers had almost no separation & sometimes it was protection. When the running game got some momentum, we had procedure penalties. Also, the 3 turnovers.

Slovis has to start trusting his recievers more and let it rip. They made some plays late in the game when they knew the ball was coming regardless.

That's the case with most OCs in the game. What would you say about Canada or Whipple?

Most of Canada's Carmen San Diego-esque travels were of his own volition. He succeeded at Northern Illinois, NC State, and Pitt at least. Not certain how he did everywhere else. But then he went up the ladder to a high-paying LSU job, clashed heads with the coach, and eventually wound up in the NFL. He got canned at NC State because he was looking for a new job every year, not because he wasn't successful.

Whipple helped put together one of the best offenses in the country at Umass. I don't think his offense is particularly great for college football, unless you have a ton of stability. He's not the type of guy who can bounce around and succeed, it seems, because it's pretty complex.

Obviously you can't evaluate this in black and white terms, because some guys get to places that don't have the pieces they need, etc. But what was Cignetti's best season? A 2010 P5 Pitt team playing in a G5 conference?

To me, if you call a run play on 3rd and 5 or more it's like giving up.

Will not work. The Steelers and Panthers are both finding this out the hard way. Wisconsin is finding it out as well. Traditional offenses do not work in modern football. You can run two wides or 5 it doesn't matter but conservative run first play action offense is dead in modern FB. Saban realized this and was smart enough to make a change and he had the best players.

Is PN going to be stupid and not grow with the times if so Pitt is going to regret giving him a extension
Even Saban changed. Must have the following. #1 Dual threat QB #2 Some form of option game #3 Throw the ball down filed to big receivers. #4 Run the ball off tackle with the threat of option/pro
