Not often that a head coach cites (2) points, so integral to who they are, as being up for change and overhaul.

But in the joint Heather/Capel statements made on Friday, HCJC does just that. Notes that EVERYTHING about the program is going to be under scrutiny. That's a profound concession, like being told you've failed at the essence of what you do.

Now, his record DOES point to failure. So maybe he had no choice in the matter. But the point to take away is that he laid pretty much prostrate to keep the job... and he was obviously willing for that kind of intense scrutiny and willingness to change.

With all the $'s saved by not buying-out Capel, we should hope that Lyke is spending some good $'s on getting a powerful college hoops consultant into the program to work behind the scenes to fix things.

Heather needs to insinuate herself STRONGLY into this program. Capel's had some bad luck... you put X and Toney and Champ on this team, and it's probably a strong squad. But! ability to blend and manage players is a strong part of what makes a good coach. It would be great if this staff is shaken up, too. The same leadership squad shows up next year, and it's almost a certain bad sign... (4) years of the same thing, and failing, can't be continued.

A "consultant"??? Why, the problems are dazzlingly obvious. Capel is still here because it's too costly to fire him. Why waste money to reach the conclusion this board reached a couple of years ago....and we're all just stupid fans! Capel isn't going to listen to an outsider. He'll just walk away with $$$$ next year.
My experience is that many "consultants" are just out of work has beens. Put the money into the S&P 500 for the next year. She'll need it.
