Attended the game yesterday on a perfect fall day. Took care of business but will say the injuries are really starting to mount:
1. Yes the start sucked sucked but everyone who wants to dog the defense realize that the d didn’t give up the 86 yard kickoff return and the safety and after the first quarter pretty much shut Duke down. Losing Camp and Woods is not going to help one bit. UNC ran for 300 yds against Wake and guessing that part of their game plan will be to attack Kancey whose on the smallish side and has been facing some double teams on inside runs.
2. My fellow Pitt fans were yelling about Vince Davis on the safety, questioning why a smallish RB was in there. Well size had nothing to do with it. Davis just missed his assignment. He had to go inside the lead block of Carter instead he bounced it outside. Mistake. Safety and Powell let him know about it on the sidelines.
3. I don’t know what targeting is any more what is reviewable and what is not and what the refs see after they review. We were given a gift on Shockey’s sideline catch thought it was a clear drop. Also they never reviewed the hit on our WR when he fumbled and on Duke’s last touchdown Pine was clearly tackled on the swing pass to the RB. Good thing it wasn’t a close game.
4. Really getting tired of watching Fowler and Herbstreidt gush about BAMA. During last night’s game in which if LSU had a decent QB they would have won, based on the two announcers you’d think BAMA beat the 85 Bears. I mean enough. BAMA beat a very average LSU team. The BAMA QB made a 25 yard throw on a wheel route where he didn’t put enough air under it and they were talking about his “arm talent”. Give me a break.
5. One thing you notice about Kenny when your close to the field is how fast he is. Once he starts running he runs by folks. I just wish he’d tuck the ball earlier. Though it was a perfect day for football there was a breeze and it affected some of his passes. Still he is so accurate and really playing at such a high level.
6. Izzy and Hammond are gonna be fun to watch. Izzy needs more touches and against a bad UNC defense I’m hoping they give him the ball. His natural speed allows him to turn the corner even when defenders have the angle on him.
7. Thought it was Cam Bright’s best game of the season.
8. Addison is such a fluid athlete that he almost looks like he’s not running. He doesn’t slow down off his cuts and catches the ball with such ease. A really gifted player. If I’m UNC I double him wherever he goes. On the down side, Krull really needs to step up. His hands are nowhere near where they need to be and it looks like Pickett is not looking for him. His body language on the sideline was not good. Boy I was really hoping Bartholomew wasn’t hurt bad cause that freshman is a bad man. He is mean, tough, big and not afraid. Great find.
9. The league needs to figure out a way to give the teams playing the espn Thursday game a bye week the week prior. Just would make sense. I think Just Fuentes is done at VT. Don’t see how he survives.
10. I can see a scenario where no Big Ten makes the CFP. They will continue to pound each other.
11. Sam Scarton has been a revelation. Just has been money. Yes he’s not a big legged kicker but just accurate and sound.
12. Everyone is expecting a shootout on thursday which probably makes sense. I’ll be coming down from NY for the game. I do think our D will make some stops and think the UNC D will have a tough time with us. I like the matchups against UNC but again thought the same against Miami. So who the hell knows, UNC is a team we consistently struggle with.
13. What a horrible DPI called on Devonshire that negated his INT. And how late was it? It’s gotten to the point where I’m sitting waiting for the flags from the ACC refs everytime we make a good play.
14. Louisville‘s play calling at 2 last night at the end of the game was as bad as it gets. Not sure what they were doing but it wasn’t good at all. Should have won that game and put the stake in Clemson once and for all.
Hoping folks show up on thursday night. Howell vs Pickett. Entertainment value alone is worth the price of admission. Your being treated to maybe the best qb season in Pitt history, it’s worth coming.
