I guess they figure people who are into men's CBB watch NFL on Sundays and those that watch women's CBB are a different demographic. Prime men's games don't seem to be featured on Sundays until NFL is over. Although personally, I'd skip any non-Steelers NFL game to watch any Pitt men's basketball game. Except maybe the Super Bowl.

I’m a die hard college and Pitt fan. Not into the the Steelers or NFL much so I enjoy the men primarily playing Saturday and the women on Sunday

Not on my TV's.

There are four men's college basketball games on right now, Maryland at Michigan on FS1, Memphis at Tulane on ESPN, Belmont at Southern Illinois on ESPNU and Iowa at the nitters on the BTN. If you don't like any of them, shortly the Butler at Georgetown game will be on, and then UCLA at Washington and Ohio State at Northwestern.

Is there really a lack of college basketball on today, or are people just not looking for it?

Few things worse than women's college basketball. I hate that YouTube TV just lists the colleges playing. They dont list the sport so I'll click on a game and find out its a women's game. On the other board, I posted that the NCAA women's soccer should move to spring and should get similar marketing support since there's nothing in the spring and NCAA D1 soccer is the 3rd or 4th women's soccer league in the world

I watched the Michigan game
and also the PSU game off
and on today.. I also saw
Pitt's women vs Miami.
Sorry, but if you like Bball
as much as I do, you watch
it. BTW, our women took
another L against Miami,
one of the few ACC teams
they had a chance to beat.

Yeah, I was there. For whatever reason they get off to another ridiculously slow start and get way behind and have to spend a ton of effort to just catch back up.

And another day of weird substitution/playing time decisions. I don't get the mindset that gets you someone starting and playing 30 minutes one game, and then barely playing at all a game later. And then someone who frequently doesn't get off the bench in the game in the 4th when you are trying to make a comeback. If someone is good enough to play when the game is on the line you'd think they'd be good enough to give you minutes in the 1st and 2nd quarters too, but apparently not.

I won't say that was a game that they SHOULD have won, but it was definitely a game that they COULD have won.

It was something to do on an afternoon that I would have just sat at home watching football games that I wasn't really interested in.

I'll probably only go a few more times this year, because, for instance, I have no desire to see live what's going to happen to this team when they play someone like Notre Dame later on this season. For the most part I'll just go to the ones like today, where if they play well they should have at least a chance to win.

The substitutions I cannot
figure out. Not only does
it not make sense, but also
players have to know why
they are getting minutes
or not getting them. How
can Washenits get 8 min.
after starting and playing
increased minutes. Not
only that, she was effective
when she did get in. Also
as bad, Hayford with 2 min,
that's all she deserves, but
White has given her min,
started her, and played her
for four years when she
shouldn't have seen the
floor. Today? Go figure.

Ok, they had height and
the best player on the
floor....Cavender, 5'6""
and was the games
leading rebounder (9).
21 pts, and over 40%
on FG's and threes. I
thought both teams
were bad ( 0-2 ) pre
game. How Bad??
44 TO's, Pitt with 20,
Miami with 24. The
UVA's, Dukes, ND's
etc are going to kill us.

Washenitz's playing time particularly doesn't make any sense. She got three minutes in the first, and certainly didn't really do anything with those minutes. And then she played about a minute and a half in the 2nd, and didn't even get on the court in the 3rd. And the only reason why she came in in the 4th was because Day Harris went flying into the courtside seats saving a steal for Pitt and they took her out for a minute to make sure she was OK. And of course at that point all she did was make a three, and then get a steal, and then turn the ball over, and at that point Harris was ready to come back in but it was like hey, she's actually doing stuff (not all of it good), we might as well leave her in and take someone else out.

But if it wasn't for Harris needing to come out there she would have played less than five minutes for the game. When she has been a starter and regular contributor, and someone that you surely have to be counting on being a big part of the team going forward.

Channise Lewis is another one. She's had games where she hasn't even played. Today, if they didn't play her today they could have lost by 50. They were down 12 late in the first when she came into the game. It was no coincidence that that was when Pitt finally started to play better. No one else on the team seemed to have ever seen a press or an attacking 1-3-1 defense before. If it wasn't for her they never get back into that game. She doesn't pile up the stats, and my god, her outside shot it simply awful, but she runs the team. She gets the ball to people where they need to be getting the ball. She calms the whole team down. And yet sometimes she doesn't even get off the bench.

New to the site. Have been watching WPIAL basketball for years. Boys and girls side. Started to watch Pitt Women’s Bball as well. Just wondering why Malcolm is sitting the bench. Have watched her play the last 4 years and that girl can shoot. She is a top 100 recruit and had many D1 offers. She has the highest 3 percentage on the team and her range is deep. I saw her play at Pitt last year in an high school championship game and she was hitting 3s from the logo. And she can pass.
I have not seen anyone else on that team that can shoot as good?

Yeah, I forgot about Lewis.
She's one I really cannot
figure out. Like you said,
"she runs the team." She's
the best pg by far. I just
assumed she was hurt. I
really believe the rotation
should be King, Johnson,
Hutcherson, Harris, Lewis,
Brown.. That's a good six
players. Remaining minutes
to Strickland, Washenitz,
and Xanor. Those last
three would push for
starter minutes. They
wouldn't be a huge fall off
from the starters, and
allow for good competition.

,
Well, I haven't seen any
WPIAL Bball, but I'll take
your word for her ability.
I have seen that she can
shoot from deep, very
deep in fact. My sense
is the rest of the game
isn't there yet. Strickland
has a very good floor
game as as does Washenitz
and both are getting more
minutes. They also appear
to be quicker. I think in
time, you'll see more of
her.

Just generally more women's games on Sunday ON MY TV LINEUP, I watched a women's game for 5 minutes last week and realized again why I don't watch it usually, it looked like a men's pickup game IMO. No need to be offended or go off, it's just an opinion

If you watch UCONN,
South Carolina, Duke,
or any of the top 10
or 15 teams you'll see
good Bball. The women
can't do athletically
what the men do, for
ex. the game can't be
played at or above the
rim. I kinda somehat
see it like golf. Women
can't hit 300+ drives,
but they can do a lot of
other things.....putting.
accuracy, irons, etc.

Pitt unfortunately isn't a
top womens program. If
you watch them against
NC.ST, VT, UVA, Duke,
etc.....you'll see decent
Bball from the opposition.

On the playing times, I suspect Coach knows the team has to show some promise or he’s gone - so he’s really changed up his normal philosophy of playing everyone and now he’s searching for the best combo.

Trouble is they are so limited by some of their better players. And they are so inconsistent. Brown might score 20 or 2. Same for Day and others.

Hard to win with two 6-footers in the paint when those 6-footers are decent but not game-changers, IMHO.

I blame the Coach for not recruiting more centers….

And Malcolm is a terrific shooter, but looks like a liability on defense unless the opponent has someone not too quick who she can guard. She seems to play a decent amount of minutes or none at all…

Go Pitt.

It does not offend me when you say something silly. In total yesterday there were probably around a dozen men's games on the various national channels. If that's not enough for you on a day that several channels that regularly show basketball on the weekends are preoccupied with the NFL I don't know what to tell you.

Right now the problem with Malcolm is that yeah, she's a good shooter. And that's about it. She doesn't have a good enough handle to give you much off the bounce, and she isn't quick enough on defense to stick with a good guard.

However, yesterday was a day that she actually could have gotten some time. First of all, Pitt played zone (not particularly well) almost the whole game. So her lack of quickness defensively wouldn't have been as big of a deal. And especially later in the game when they were trying to come back they could have used another shooter on the court, someone who might get hot and hit a couple threes and shoot you back into the game.

True, playing a zone they
could have gotten away
with having her on the
floor giving them a
good threat from the
outside. If this were the
only sub issue, I probably
wouldn't even mention it.
Problem is, it's just one of
many.

Again two pretty bad ACC
teams going at it with a
combined 44 TO's. Their
bigs weren't all that great
but they were BIG, so we
got killed inside. White not
recruiting even a medicore
big is unforgiveable.

Don’t waste anymore BS on this team..Lance has togo..period

I believe the women’s game is more fundamental. Clearly they are not as athletic but it’s nice to watch basketball in a more pure form. Just my opinion.

Some of us just like talking
Bball, regardless of whether
it's womens or mens. Hell,
last week I was invited to a
mens Div 11 game West Chester
vsSeton Hill (in West Chester).
I went, even though I only go
to Nova or the Sixers. Was
it great Bball?......No, but
for me it was Bball.

I have been reading about the women Pitt team for awhile now. I am also like Wpialfan8. I have read the criticism of Malcolm and defense and quickness. The games I have watched she has done well on defense she plays smart and does not get beat. I agree with the playing zone comment. If you are worried about her defense it is easier to hide someone on defense if they are producing for you on offense. As far as her quickness IMO I think this Pitt team has quick girls but where are they going? And lets face it like someone on here said their defense is not that good. I have also watched Malcolm over the years and she has basketball IQ and has been coached by one of the best coaches in the state she knows how to play. She does have a good handle and can get to the rim, she just doesn't force shots with 2 or more people on her. If I had a shooter like her I would just line her up on the 3 and let her shoot all day. You can play all the defense you want but if you can't put the ball in the hoop you are not going to win. She is not that big of a liability that she is going to kill you on defense. I just fine it hard to believe that with all the accolades Malcolm has and all the offers she had she can't play at Pitt. Not sure if anyone else on here is from Pittsburgh, I would just like to see a local girl get the opportunity to do well.
