Louisville, Syracuse, Nova could’ve had anyone in the business and they went with long time asst/ mid major lottery type hires. All 3 programs in the toilet.

You get what you pay for. These programs should be too big and too rich to fail

An assistant coach when you are maybe not a blue blood but pretty close to it. Look what the SEC does. They knock it out of the park every time.

The hire is only part of it. Most SEC schools are committed to spending money on talent. The 2 blue blood ACC schools are doing okay with assistant hires.

Love the Arkansas hire.

Blue bloods (Duke, UNC) are somewhat idiot proof. Places like Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, etc should not have better basketball coaches than Nova, Syr, Lou, etc.

Why not? Those schools probably offer more money for both coaches and players. Probably more reasonable expectations too.

Arkansas has a lot of tradition and a very passionate fan base. Hogs have made a lot of hires that were considered really good hires at the time, that just didn't work out for whatever reason. (Stan Heath, John Pelphrey, Mike Anderson, Musselman)

Tennessee & Auburn got kinda lucky when a couple of retreads fell in their laps. Bruce Pearl desperately wanted to get another chance at a SEC school, and Barnes was viewed as a safe pick after the last coach was in all sorts of NCAA trouble. Barnes was not a very popular hire with the fan base at the time.
