TB Carries Per Game

Here are my estimates:

Conner - 20
Ollison - 7
Hall - 5
Ibriham - 4

Moss - Redshirt
I like it, nice topic. Last year we averaged just under 40 carries per game. (not sure if QB sacks counted, im assuming so since Nate had 85). JC had 298 carries in '14, assuming he played all the games (Cant remember) that is what? almost 23 carries a game. That is a ton. Love Conner but I am hoping we can get him about 15-18 touches a game and rely more on Ollison and Hall.

Im curious if we want our # 2 option to be more of Ollison or more of Hall/Moss. Obviously Hall/Moss has more wiggle/speed and less power compared to Ollison who obviously is your straight ahead runner.. Probably depends more on the matchup and what RB looks better. But as much as I love Conner, I think getting him 260+ carries is putting way too much on him.. Dude sat out last year and oh yeah, is coming off Chemo.. Would like to see (on average) JC get about 15 carries a game and see the combo of Hall/Ollison get another 15 carries a game.

Throw in the god forsaken Jet Sweep that this board loves so much and then get my man Whitehead 2 or 3 carries and there you have a formula for a national championship season..

Have yet to see "wiggle" or quick-lateral-moves from Hall or Moss - course haven't seen that much of Hall and only the spring game with Moss.

Pitt needs a back who can plant-the-foot, make the quick change of direction, and make the first guy miss. Conner does it mainly with brute strength. Ahh for the days of Shady, Dion, Ray, Curtis Martin, and the incomparable TD...

Go Pitt.

yeah, maybe not wiggle but that overused analogy of a home run hitter.. Shady's lateral movement was silly, he'd juke a guy and they'd miss by a two yards. Ray Graham, pre-knee injury wasn't too far behind..

My point is, with JC, who is your 'change of pace" back? Ollison or Hall?

Conner - 15-18
Ollison - 10
Henderson/Whitehead sweeps - 5
Hall + Ibrahim - <5

Moss might be a great change-of-pace guy, but I can't see burning his redshirt and taking carries away from Conner and Ollison just so he has some. Our homerun threat is going to be Henderson & Whitehead takings sweeps and reverses wide - which is also what we do to keep defenses honest without having to change who's in the backfield. We have an A+ and A- battering ram, both of whom have quick feet for their size, so rotating just them is a clear cohesive strategy that pays off late in the game.

I am a major advocate of the redshirt. In my perfect world, all of our freshmen would redshirt every year. In five years, this program would be completely stacked.

However, that's not quite how it works. As such, if Moss is as good as he has demonstrated so far, he is going to play this year because he brings a dimension that none of those other backs bring – a homerun threat.

Not to mention the fact the coaches have been open and honest about the fact Moss isn't going to redshirt

They have?? Not calling you out, just curious about this. Did they actually say this? Or was it something that all coaches say about how "if they can help the team, they will play" blah blah. Very interesting if this staff is on record saying that they will play Moss this year..

Narduzzi and Powell both said it around the spring game...

Missed that. Well Hall should redshirt then, because if they are gonna play Moss, not looking all that great for Hall. Barring any injury nightmare like we had last year of course..

Coaches say they will most likely not redshirt players all the time. If we have 4 healthy backs all capable of playing well, we will redshirt Moss.

-Where does Maurice Ffrench and George Hill fit in?

-Both are pushing 4.3 speed and will be two of the fastest players in all of college football next year.
All of college football, 10.5 100's est..

-Ffrench was the NJ offensive player of the year, averaged 12 yards per carry on the ground, and put up close to 2000 yards running and receiving. He is lightning fast. You want to see explosive speed, watch this.

-George Hill also averaged just under 10 yards per carry in high school. Also very fast and explosive.

-There was a time when Pitt was recruiting weak duds that had no skill at all offense under former Coaches. Not any more, there is a new brand of talent in town.

Ffrench is a WR, Hill will be redshirted.. BTW, Ffrench TD on the Jet Sweep first play, Pitt fans "pleased"

-I think Ffrench could be used in a lot of ways.

-Another player no one is talking about. Ruben Flowers. 6'4 WR with 4.5 speed. Averaged 18YPC the last 2 years in high school posting close to 40TD's. Home run threat to stretch the field all day.

I think flowers will be given shot to play from day 1. No way in hell this staff is content with Ford, Tipton, Weah, henderson and Challingsworth..

-WR is one of the easier positions to start freshmen. If you take a look at the number of WR's that came into Pitt and put up a decent chunks of yards with some TD's the last 15 years, there is a number of them.

-Im most confident because we stacked the D-line, and that is where the game will be won.

outside of Ford, no one has any real experience. Chally a tiny bit.. It's not like Tipton or Henderson is that far ahead of any incoming freshman. Think it's truly a case of "the most talent will play." Weah is the only one holding Weah back from being a starter..

-If it was me, Im going Ford, Flowers for a deep home run threat to keep the defense honest as he can outjump any secondary player, and a speed demon in the slot. Use those 3 and pound the rock. Flowers tape and numbers look good. 6'4 WR with 4.5 speed is NFL caliber.

. Take it to the house Mr.FFRENCH!!! And don't stop on the front porch. Go inside and tell swervin27 that a jet sweep is a great designed play!!!
