5 years under Whipple at UMass his team never threw for less than 3000 yards:

2018 - 3577
2017 - 3570
2016 - 3080
2015 - 3090
2014 - 3741

In 2013 before he took over the UMass the team threw for 1877 yards as a team, look familiar?

Whipple never worked for "Stand Pat" (cousin of "Ground Chuck") Narduzzi...a HC who prefers to run ... plus loves the QB who only threw for 8 yards.

So, until I see what happens in a couple games, my vote would be 1500 yards

Somewhere between 2250-2500 yards seems realistic. WRs can create some YAC yards with their athleticism.

I'll go with 2750- 3000
I believe Duzz brought in Whipple to open up this offense and that's exactly what's going to happen. I don't think it's a lack of talent that stopped us from throwing the ball, but a lack of innovation. I can see 2000 on the ground and 3000 through the air. I see us winning the coastal again.

I just hope that Watson didn’t kill KP’s confidence last year.

I agree. It was an entire season of "dont screw up" bad habits form in an entire 14 game season that was in a crtical year of his development. Its tough to throw the entire season out of the window and start his develppmemt over again. Some game experience was gained but i am fearful that the switch cant be thrown onas quickly as it needs to be. Its why i fear our sucees against uva. If they pressure him early and rattle him it can go sideways quickly

Yeah. I have faith in Whipple, we all should at this point, but there was zero confidence placed on Pickett last year. Sure there were a few games where he was allowed to air it out, but 8 yards passing in a game is absolutely pathetic regardless of the game plan or excuses. Hell you could throw most of us from this board into the game and we could do better than that. That can’t be good for his psyche or confidence. I really hope to eat my words on this.

FWIW - Watson had Kenny Pickett for 2 years.

I think Watson gets a lot of unfair blame to be honest. Our oline was pretty damn bad last year at protecting Kenny. I mean i feel like half of his drop backs he was hit before he could go through his progressions. Whipple can certainly turn this team around but if our oline cant give Kenny, or any of our other QBs time, then nothing will really change.

You are correct and makes it worse.I was thinking more about game experienxe which is where development occurs. Bad habits after 14 games , your real first season, us tough to undo
