And Im sure this game will break ratings records which is why I laugh when people say if these programs disassociate with the universities and become fully professional, less people will watch. No. People arent watching these games because these players have class tomorrow. They watch these games because the USA is football obsessed and these are well-known famous brands. They will still be well-known famous brands when the players dont have to attend class or even be enrolled in school.

I think Michigan winning it all is what won it all for Ohio State. Their big-money donors got together after that and just said, "Oh, hell no." Anyway, the semifinals viewership was down 17%, so it's tough to say people are eating this up. Maybe tonight will fare better, but it feels like this is going way too far into the new year. I wish they could wrap this thing up on New Year's Day. Is the month off still necessary?

Cant go by that. Semifinals on Jan 1 vs Semifinals on a random Thursday and then a random Friday are a massive downgrade in TV timeslot. Also, having this game on Inauguration Day wasn't the smartest of ideas. This isn't a political statement but today is a very big day regardless of which party won the election. There's tens of millions of football fans who are in Inauguration Day mode today.

The CFP NC should move to the Sunday before the Super Bowl.

31-15, 4th & Goal from the 10. Freeman pulls a Narduzzi and kicks the FG and of course they miss it. I get that the probability of converting on 4th & Goal from the 10 is only like 20% but the chances of making that FG, stopping OSU, getting a TD, stopping OSU, and making a FG to win is probably 2%-3%.

Yes, it was still a 2-score game even if he makes the FG. Just like making a layup in hoops when you are down 6 near the end - it is still a 2-score game.

but ND wasted no time and scored right after, so it would've been a 11 point swing, thus being just one stop away for a winning TD... liked the call on third down but damned, DB needed to bump Smith...

Sure, but they didn't get either the second stop or the second score; instead, OSU scored again. That is the problem with kicking the FG.

Do these programs have real-time analytics access? I know you can't always go by percentages but the chances that they were going to make that FG, stop OSU, score a TD, stop OSU, and kick a FG is very close to 0%. The percentages clearly favored going for it and if you don't get it, they have the ball at the 10.

not saying it was the right call, the way it unfolded, if they would've made the FG; plus the quick strike + 2, now are you are only needing one stop to have a stab at winning the ball game... time, they had, DB just needed to mug Smith... and his Scuba mask...

Weren't they down 16 at the time? They would have had to make the field goal, get the stops, and still score two touchdowns.

Same reason I didn't like Narduzzi going for the field goal. In 56 minutes, we hadn't scored a touchdown. But we thought we would somehow get a stop and then march down and score in the last 4 minutes? Insane. And to think the odds of that are better than punching it in from the one? Double insane.

Don’t understand how you can be overly critical of ND’s decision there considering how everything unfolded. Since it was 4th and long, not a good chance of getting the TD there and a FG would have left them with needing only 2 TDs to win instead of needing 2 TDs + 2 2-pt conversions just to tie.

They ended up getting the 1st TD and 2-pt conversion and then had an opportunity to get the ball back with just under 3 minutes remaining and what would have been needing only a TD to win the game had they made that FG.

I could see going either way with that decision and personally, I likely would have leaned towards going for it on that 4th down. But in any case, ND not stopping OSU on a long 3rd and 11 is what ultimately prevented them from having a chance to win or tie.

If they would have made that field goal, Ohio State also plays it much differently on offense, though. They were kind of just in lead preservation/clock-milking mode.

Next year a team with a $30 million payroll will win it.
It wasn't published like OSU's $20 million payroll, but both Oregon and Texas had somewhere around $25 to 30 million this year. Phil Knight (Nike-Oregon) is determined to win a NC before he dies (he's now 86)

On the season, ND was 4-10 on kicks inside the 40, which is atrocious. That makes the decision to go for it even better.

The game was ranked 14th in viewers of CFP games since 2014. Not that great.
