Tennessee Martin Data Point

Tennessee Martin lost to Youngstown State 90-72. They are bad for sure.

We can't take much out of the win against them, no doubt. That's why I'm waiting for them to play a legitimate P6 team and see how they respond. Maybe wvu will give us more to go on. But how good is wvu?

As far as competing in the ACC? No, we probably can’t take much from UT Martin.

But we’ve been run out of the Petersen Events Center more than a few times, including in the last two season openers, against teams that look a lot like UT Martin. Being good enough to win comfortably against teams like that to open the year should be the expectation, sure, but it’s still a good thing to have that expectation be met.

Okay, that does put things in perspective a bit. I knew UT Martin wasn't a good team, but that's kind of a different level of bad. Obviously this is better than losing to the Citadel, but I wouldn't expect something like that to happen with a team this experienced. I suppose we should know more in about a week.

Of course the OVC is now probably a bottom five league in D1 basketball.

So that would be kinda like being not the tallest, but one of the taller little people in the circus.
Or Maybe.. Just Maybe, post it before the season opener, NOT after they where they got their asses handed to them by 2 mediocre programs and coaches. It doesn’t hold the same pizazz as it does now..

Yeah the OVC went from a nice mid major conference with some solid under the radar teams to becoming the WAC of the Southeast.

Actually I take that back, with some of their recent additions the WAC is probably better than the OVC.

Not sure any has been hit harder. Lost Murray State, Belmont, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, and Jax State (this wasnt a big loss) and replaced with Little Rock and 2 D2 schools (Southern Indiana, Lindenwood). Tennessee State will also be leaving eventually I'd guess.
