Recruiting update: Local TE offered & Buffalo LB gets visit
Robert Morris is definitely busy in this first week of visits, as the Colonials have handed out an offer to a local prospect.
Belle Vernon tight end
Jake Sweitzer picked up an offer from RMU. Sweitzer is a 6-foot-4, 235 pound tight end who had 18 catches for 255 yards at Belle Vernon this year. Robert Morris has connections at all the local schools, but the one at Belle Vernon runs a little deeper. Former RMU linebacker Jon Krepps is a Belle Vernon grad, and his brother Aaron Krepps was the head coach at Belle Vernon until stepping aside a few weeks ago.
Sweitzer's a legitimate big body, and Belle Vernon used him in multiple situations on offense. He was used as a stand-up receiver in the slot and also with his hand on the ground in the natural tight end spot. You can watch his
highlight film here.
He's also had interest from Penn and Davidson, among a few other FCS schools.
A little further north, at least one RMU coach spent the day in Buffalo. Along with a stop at Canisius High School for a few players we're hoping to identify, RMU spent part of the day at St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute and chatted with fullback/linebacker
Rod Payne. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Payne isn't the biggest body but he has some athleticism at middle linebacker and at fullback. You can check out his
junior film here, and we'll try to track down his senior film.
