Friends and I logged on, since we live in Philly. We all tried different sessions. I tried semifinals and those were sold out as soon as I logged on. Every other session was last two rows ONLY, in the upper deck. Gonna take my chances the day of with stubhub or seatgeek and keep my fingers crossed. Was hoping to see at least a session. Any luck for anyone else?

Same thing. I believe they only release tickets in small batches. Keeps the demand up and makes it appear limited amount of tickets available.

So should I just keep checking back or will they email people on the list to say "we've just released more tickets"?

The NCAA controlls all the tickets. There are no good seats for the general public. The schools competing have a large number of tickets reserved. Also a large number of tickets are held for sponsors etc. Generally a small number of tickets are released the day before or the day of the event. These seats are the left overs from sponsors tickets. If you are lucky and show up at the arena ticket office at the right time, you get great seats. The only way to get good seats is through one of the schools or know someone connected to the sponsors’ tickets. Be a member of the PWC can get you tickets. Know a booster of PSU, OHS, or Iowa can get you tickets.
Also donate money to the wrestling hall of fame can get you good seats. Takes $250 per seat at Hall of Fame.

Thank you for all the information. Much appreciated.

Pitt ticket office told me they only got enough tickets for family members this year. Bummer for this PWC donor and season ticket holder. I've been able to get tickets for nationals for years through Pitt.

If you donate 250 to the hall of fame, are you guaranteed to get a ticket? I don't see anything about that on their website.

Generally yes. Not all years. I would certainly call them before donating.

Not every ticket gets sold to family. I bought through PWC a couple years, since I donate, I have purchased through Bucknell the last 3 years. Was able to get 3 with no issue last year, but I do donate there also. I know Bucknell has gotten more exclusive with donors first policy, after parents of wrestlers who qualify.

I donate to PWC also, and normally am able to get tix, but was told this year they only received enough for family members.

I am going for the first time this year with 2 friends. Pieced together tickets on Ticketmaster. Total $1500 for all 6 sessions. Expensive but I will enjoy every minute.

For me, going for the first time was an amazing experience. Maryland hosted the tournament, and I was going to law school in Washington, DC.

There were some great wrestlers there. Wade Schalles of Clarion won at 150, pinned everyone he wrestled except for one guy who defaulted due to injury and won the outstanding wrestler award. His cradle was and still is the best I’ve ever seen. In the final, people were betting on how long it would take him to pin his opponent from Michigan. It was under 4 minutes.

Larry Owings, the only wrestler ever to defeat Dan Gable in college, was back for his senior year and finished runnerup at 142. I don’t believe he ever won a title. It wasn’t his fault, but he was the unquestioned villain because of his win over Gable. Everyone but the Washington fans and some of the Iowa State fans rooted against him.

Iowa State won the team title and had 3 individual champions. Michigan State also had 3 and Clarion had 2. Michigan State finished 2d and Oklahoma State finished 3rd. They were leading going into the final day, but every one of their wrestlers lost.

I showed up without tickets and got tickets for both sessions from a scalper at just slightly over face value.

I’ve been to three more championships, but nothing compares to that first time. You should have a blast!

Owings beat Gable in finals to win a championship.

I was there, too. I was working at Michigan State at the time and it was a good meet for the Spartans. Schalles was amazing. He just destroyed the guy from Michigan in the championship match.

Owings did win a championship when he beat Gable. I saw that match, too. But he lost the match at Maryland to Tom Milkovich from Michigan State.

So I saw the only match Gable ever lost and saw Sanderson complete his career undefeated at the NCAA meet in Albany.

Milkovich had a brother who also won, correct? Those truly were the golden years of MSU wrestling.

The wrestler from Michigan had a look of fear on his face from the second the match started against Wade. Plus, when Wade got him in the cradle and started to tighten it, there must have been 5,000 people shouting “SQUEEZE” in unison.

Wade was made for folk style. He wasn’t nearly as dominating under international rules.

Yes, his brother, Pat, won as a 17-year old freshman. Greg Johnson was MSU's other champion, and it was his third championship. You're right about those being the golden years of MSU wrestling. It was fun to be there to witness it.

i graduated in 82 from clarion, we had an alumni match and wade came back along with other notables to wrestle the current starters before the season began. Wade taped an X on the matt and went on to pin the current starter on the X. That wrestler had a very good career at Clarion but Wade was still unstoppable.

Wade was the best folkstyle wrestler I ever have seen. He had all the physical tools and he studied every possible takedown and pinning move. If you watch any of the teaching videos he made, you can see the depth and breadth of his knowledge.
