I'm sorry but watching Saturday's games just adds credence to the fact that the ACC refs have to be the ABSOLUTE WORST in college football by far. Not only do I believe there is some kind of Southern bias but besides that, missed call after missed call - just atrocious on every level.

I know when Pitt was in the Big East there were obviously times that the refs stunk. However, they were not this bad by a long shot.

Pitt really has a double whammy here: Southern bias + pure incompetence = Trouble for Pitt until the league decides to do an overhaul of its crappy refs!!!

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that I've seen a lot more of the ref who announces the call having the guy who threw the flag step in for a second so he can be told what exact nothingburger the official who threw the flag "saw." The facial expressions on the officials during these little conferences have not exactly filled me with confidence in their competence. Looks like a lot of 'You're saying you saw that? Well, okay... I guess...'

The 13-9 game at WVU was an absolute Big East Crime Boss assault on fairness if anyone recalls. I have never seen a more blatant attempt by a group of officials to determine the outcome of a game. I blame it on the "Family" up in NYC or wherever the Big East HQ's were located. (Duke vs. the U yesterday does rank right up there excepting the final play )

I agree with that game's officiating being atrocious, but I don't think the Big East officiating overall was as pathetic as the ACC's.

Pitt WVU was unrivaled

Without question, the Big East bigshots wanted WVU in that title game, and had they gotten there, they would've won the MNC.

But WVU couldn't get out of their own way. Injured QB or no injured QB, they thought that they could win simply by showing-up. Pitt brought their A+ game; they deserved to win.

A wicked win blew through Mtown that night...no time in Wanny' s career at Pitt did his team play like that.
But never in my life of watching many hundreds of cfb did I see such blatant bad reffing delivered to one team v the other.
Never

Two of my most vivid memories of that game were: (1) Pitt's very mediocre defense that stepped-up and played the game of its life - I don't think that they missed a tackle all night; and (2) seeing the look of frustration that Wanny was feeling: the poor guy was suffering; he knew that his team was getting hosed, but there was nothing that he could do about it.

But in the end, not even the refs could rescue WVU. After the game, I ventured over to the WVU message board to see their reactions. In the midst of their despair, one of their posters nailed it perfectly - they said, "We got all of the calls. The refs tried to give us the game but we still couldn't win it."

Also led to one of the greatest juxtaposition s of jubilation v complete shock & sorrow.

RichRod being interviewed outside the Pitt locker...he struggled to say a word and looked like he puked on his sweatshirt ...being drowned out by the screaming PITT football team just behind him.

It was a classic Pitt moment

Outside of the WV game and the Rutgers game at Rutgers where clearly homer calls were the norm, the BE wasn't as bad as these ACC knuckleheads. Football officiating has been bad and instant replay demonstrates just how poor it has been.

The Big East had a handful of calls that were probably the worst of all time. Watching an entire game though, the ACC is just so much worse than any crews I've ever seen they don't even deserve jobs. It's honestly disgraceful to allow these guys so much control of games when they are quite frankly clueless.

Those are the two that immediately come to mind. ACC refs are much worse.
I remember the announcers during 13-9 saying those Oderrick Turner 'holds' were 'tough calls.' Neither would come right out and say it was a horrible call. The blogosphere and media wasn't so kind.
