The big question now...

Dont want to watch this shit show again. Hope we dont go anywhere. We are best left in the burgh where we can suck!

hmm...if we get to 6, the safe assumption would be victories against BC, FSU, & GT; however, all 3 are road games

i’m guessing we win 2 of those 3 and beat either VT, ND, or Miami

Are there 3 more wins on our schedule?

We aren't going to need to get to six. The NCAA has already ruled that teams don't need to get to any particular record this year to get a bowl bid. So the ACC is going to fulfill all of their bowl obligations, no matter what the team's records end up being.

The ACC has at least 10 bowl game affiliations this year. That does not include the playoffs. If an ACC team makes the playoffs that would mean 11 teams. If, for instance, Clemson makes the playoff, the Orange Bowl picks Miami and one of the other New Year's Six games picks Notre Dame that would mean 12 teams. Out of 15.

In short, ACC teams (and teams from some of the other P5 conferences) with losing records are going to play in bowl games this year. That is almost a mathematical guarantee.

So then, Birmingham?

Honestly,

I am guessing a bowl trip to BHam or Shreveport is a money loser for Pitt.

Given that Covid is rearing its ugly head again....with the predicted Winter months just as bad,

Why go?

And incidentally, since all bowl money is pooled together and it goes back out to the schools with the annual ACC disbursement, and since the conference gives teams money to pay for bowl expenses, if Pitt is losing money on bowl games they are doing it wrong.

If we get picked we'll go. Because that's what it means to be a part of a conference. You aren't turning down a bowl bid that came through the conference because you just decided that you don't want to play.

Yeah this is going to be a big topic of discussion when we get to November. There are going to be people incensed that a 6 win (at the time) Pitt is somehow behind a 4 win FSU team in the bowl pecking order.

Under the new agreements the conference is supposed to help decide which teams go to which bowls. Which I would think means that they will sorta go by the standings, but they will also take geography into account. They aren't going to have us play in Florida and send Florida State to California when they could just as easily do the opposite and reduce total travel by a lot.
