The Capel era cannot end soon enough.

Given the hype, I don't think there's been a bigger disappointment in the history of Pittsburgh sports.
I agree because ultimately in Year 4 he just hasn’t acquired talent at the level that was needed and expected — nor has he shown an ability to lead a team without a myriad of distractions. That said, he does have to get some credit for squeezing what he can put of a fairly talentless roster. They play hard.

Jeffress needs to be benched ..there has to be someone better..has to
Would love to get Horton back. Teams could not afford to leave him open at the arc. Having said that, I wonder if our defense, which has been improved, would take a serious hit if Horton replaces Jeffress. Will isn't a great defender, but, he is clearly playing because he can defend.

Capel would play 3 guards if he had his full complement of veteran guards. I think needed change is coming but I also should be permitted to believe these close losses would have been different.

Really too bad Justin didn't come back. Slot him in for Jeffress and this team is so much better.
No doubt. So close but yet so far. I am not sure what we would look like on D, but I can only dream what it might have looked like with a starting five of Hugley, Gueye, Penny, Femi, and Horton. Burton and Sibande off the bench as 6 and 7th man. It could have been interesting. Instead we remain in basketball purgatory waiting for a savior to be named.

Look on the bright side. Maybe it is for the best anyway.

I think the two can make one good player.

I don’t think Horton hurts as bad on D as Will does on O.

Weird ass timing for this thread. Yay - Just wait around all night and have it ready for “after the loss”.

So silly. The macro issues of the program are well documented. No need to say it again.

This actual group of players on the court continues to play hard and come together. Another very tough luck loss for a team that player like winners most of the night.

Remember - this group can’t help those afore mentioned broader issues.

Agree, but there are no other choices right now. I suspect if Horton comes back (BIG IF), Will backs up the 4 and 5.
I hate to even say this but if Will continues to play lots of minutes Capel needs to tell him not to shoot at all, unless he is under the rim or something and gets a rebound.

The downright frightening thing is we have no better option than playing Jeffress 37 minutes in a conference game. Defense, schmeefence, he is a 0 on offense. He's playing 30 MPG and only shooting 32% from the field. I cant imagine there is a worse perimeter player offensively in the P6 who plays that much. As I said before, he has the game of Griffin Abel offensively. How bad must Santos be that he can't even sniff the floor?

Unfortunately Santos lost all confidence.
Sucks because he has way more raw skill on O than Jeffress.
Hopefully he gets off the bench in the next couple of games but id imagine he's not showing it in practice.

I don't understand how Jeffress can play 37 minutes and Santos 0. I understand Jeffress is a better defender but do we have coaches? Is there anything Santos can be coached to do for 10-12 minutes? We are playing a glorified walk-on (and Im not talking about Onye) way too much.

Yeah ... hopefully Santos can settle in a bit and find a way to work his way back in the rotation (such as it is).

Probably better for everyone if Horton returns. He heads to the starting lineup and Jeffress takes backup minutes at the 2/3/4 , Onye takes 1-2 backup minutes and Collier backs up John. And that is our 8 man rotation for this year.

There is that, if things manage to work out.

Well, I would say that if we don't get Horton back, we lose alot of close games. Looks like a binary outcome to me. Will starts hitting some shots and we win, or he keeps shooting blanks and we lose. He is going to be playing big minutes unless Horton is reinstated.

Capel is fine 1-2 big fish wil turn the tide we have a team just need some stars to add and the scoring will jump. Depth won’t be a issue if we had 1-2 star players it would take the pressure of so many. I’ll say this if the fire Capel we may never get a recruit because they will say there no stability and they don’t even know if they’d be playing for the same guy that recruited them. This is really Capel a 3rd yr whole ncaa is down this passed 2 your Covid hit hard and all the teams are feeling it will be fine with Capel and if the stick with him like are football coach might see some results here soon. Stability we have to show recruits. Look at Florida State took him 15 yrs to do anything lol or Miami few yrs ago. It takes time to build something that got so messed up over a short period of time so we need to show stability to recruits that stay 4 yrs the one and downs well they don’t care they fine in a yr or 2 but 4 yr guys like Pitt will get they need stability to commit

This is Year 4 and he hasn’t landed 1-2 big fish yet. As a matter of fact he only landed 1 high school recruit last year and none so far this year.

Justin turned into a big fish and if he could add a guard or forward with shooting ability to pair with Hugley then Pitt has it’s two fishes .

He is going to have 4 straight losing seasons at Pitt and 6 straight losing seasons overall going back to Oklahoma. Do you really think he is going to miraculously turn it around if given another season?

It is amazing what 3 close losses and 1 close win can achieve.

I expect that illusion to fade very soon and disappear entirely if Horton returns to little effect.
