The Capel era cannot end soon enough.

He is going to have 4 straight losing seasons at Pitt and 6 straight losing seasons overall going back to Oklahoma. Do you really think he is going to miraculously turn it around if given another season?
No , I don’t . I’m just not sure of two important things .
1) That there’s enough extra money around to fire JC and then hire anyone who can revive the program.
2) That any highly desirable coach would take this job over others that will most surely open up .

If this was my team and my money with limited interest in the program and embarrassing low attendance I’d live through another yr or two to see if miracles could happen and lessen the buyout if things continue as is . Five yrs is a lot moola to write off .

Out of curiosity who’s your idea of a highly desirable coach? If you mean like the Brad Stevens and Shaka Smarts of the world a few years ago I agree. I’d howl when people mentioned them for here. Or guys like Greg Marshall.

But it’s a P5 job. People need to stop discounting that. There will be plenty of good coaches who’d take that job in the blink of an eye. Don’t forget they have pretty big egos and while money is a factor they believe they’ll be able to get it done.

I don’t follow the coaching scene like some but I can’t see guys like Odom or Medved turning down the job if offered.

Is Jeffress the Pat Bostick of Pitt hoops?

Wow, that's an incredibly accurate analogy

- both "semi-local"

- both very highly rated

- both look completely overmatched playing at a level far too high for them

I thought Bostick was more of a PSAC talent. Probably couldn't play at a decent FCS. Jeffress is also more of a D2 player. At a low major like St. Francis, I think he's an 8-9 PPG guy. Probably 12-13 in the PSAC

Nah. Jeffress has to beat WVU…then we’ll talk…

Throw in ND and a ranked Cincinnati team.

Bostick was the QB for some of the best wins in the Wanny era. probably saved his job. Yet no,zero llove in return from Wanny. What an ingrate.

I’m simply going by past history . They hit a home run in hiring an unknown in Ben Howland and when he left they totally struck out in a national search and luckily hired his unknown untested assistant (JD ) . That team was on the verge of greatest and they still couldn’t entice anyone of note . JD left a tournament team and after an extensive (ha ha ) search by a national search firm they made a splash hire in KS. Two long yrs after that fiasco Heather wanted to go big and was used by Hurley and pulled JC out of nowhere with no good candidates in site . Four more yrs of being a doormat in the ACC with many holes in their roster I’m sure they’ll hit a home run this time with limited financial flexibility.

Bostick didn't beat WVU. He just happened to be the guy handing it off to Shady while he and the D played out of their minds.
What is wrong with you? The comparison is Jeffress on the BB court and Bostick on the FB field. My lighthearted post wasn’t meant for critical dissection with stats ‘nat. Geesh.

This is Year 4 and he hasn’t landed 1-2 big fish yet. As a matter of fact he only landed 1 high school recruit last year and none so far this year.
How can he land big fish after he Took over a dumpster fire. And then you’re three Covid which is really no excuse but as you can see the whole NCAA is down, And if Horton and the other guard who isn’t playing all you have to do is really add one real good player and this team would actually be really good deep. So if we get rid of him you’re showing recruits and stability and we won’t get a big fish again until some coat sticks around for at least five years. Honestly I’d give cable two more years to turn it around and if he doesn’t let him go but at least recruits know that he’s going to be around
