This is the definition of a 50/50 probability, but it's interesting nonetheless:
Pitt has lost the coin toss in every game this season. Every single one. I guess I can't say it's exactly 50/50, since I don't know what each team called, either the opponent in the four home games or Pitt in the two road games. But the result has been the same: the other team won the toss.
In four of those six games, the opponent won the toss and deferred; Pitt punted every time with a trio of three-and-outs and just one first down gained on the game's opening possession. In the two cases where an opponent took the ball - UCF and Delaware - both resulted in a punt.
The streak is actually seven games, as Stanford won the coin toss in the Sun Bowl, took the ball and went three-and-out. Pitt won the toss in the ACC Championship Game, deferred and gave up a 75-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage.
So we'll see if the Panthers can break the streak on Friday night at Syracuse.
