First allow me to say that I could not care less over any of the players that have transferred. Not one and that includes Horton. They are all replaceable, every single one of them. What troubles me more than anything is the lack of any type of loyalty within this program. Year after year we see the same thing, a mass exodus followed by everyone blaming the portal. The problem is not the portal although we could debate about the number of times one can enter it, the real problem is the lack of team, the lack of commitment and the lack of pride within this program. Sadly, that culture starts at the top.
Many of the guys who left were not ACC players, good, go play where you belong. However, what does that say about our recruiting? Not all players develop in the first 2 years. Sometimes it takes a red shirt year and a couple more before they are juniors and ready to contribute. The problem here is, no one makes it that far. No one buys in. No one buys what the coach is supposedly trying to build here.
Sure the portal makes it easy for them to leave but where have all the men gone? We used to have men in this program. Not these types who think they are 10 times better than they are and blame everyone but the one they see in the mirror. Then they leave and we start over. We are the collegiate version of the Cleveland Browns.
Who is willing to work? Nike, Burton and Hugley came out and said they were staying, the rest can all go. We lose nothing.
The real problem is that we have a coach who can offer players immediate playing time in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They can start. They can play in nice facilities and be on TV and yet he can't get anyone. That is truly pathetic. And the ones he does get, they leave because they have no heart.
There is a deeper problem here than the transfer portal. It is the culture of the program. Are things within our program under this staff so toxic that everyone leaves or are the players he recruits that big of Pus****? Either way, don't sweat it, we lose nothing when they leave.
