Trying to get some open discussion about Jaymar's "situation". Comes in local kid and plays really well (team guy, does the dirty work, and acts like a clean up crew for a young at the time oline). System changes blah blah blah and now he's a tight end and we have no te depth. Can this kid not play DE or move back to FB thats alot of wasted talent. I like the aggressiveness of the Aston kid but Jaymar was a one man wrecking crew who could catch too. I feel like he has been the best FB in program since Hyno. Anyone else see him making an NFL roster? What am I missing?

Aston and him are a good 1-2 punch.

Since last season, I've thought that Jaymar has been lost in the shuffle. Two offensive coordinators ago, he played an important role in the offense. Now? Who knows?

I hope they find a relevant place for him - before he's next seen on a milk carton.

I like to agree but theres no more 1-2 its just aston.... Jaymar is a senior play him.
What is jaymars situation?

His situation is he was a MAJOR contributor to james connors success and now he is shoved into a TE position that doesn't fit him. Its like Mannessah garner all over but at the FB position. Coaches keep saying "pound the rock" run the football and there is no better option to help do that then Jaymar. Look at his film or most of JC gains +10 yards

I'm sure we'll see plenty of him this season.

He's not a tight end. He is a full back but instead of being in backfield, he's in slot, coming in motion, etc. same thing, different starting point.

The few I formations last year did have Aston as your typical lead back. Curious if they liked Aston more as a lead back in I and having Parrish line up off tackle and pulling. He seems to be pretty good at that. A lot of Qs long runs was to the left with Parrish lined up on right and pulling left.

Bingo! The VT game stands out in regards to what you described. We gashed them a few times with this formation.

That's an H back--a hybrid TE/FB. Parrish is a beast at it. The H back is a staple of the Wisky/ALvarez/Chryst offense.

I don't know if Canada will use an H in some of his formations, as it means playing with one less outside receiver on the field, but we'll find out soon enough.

I expect the coaches like both Aston and Jaymar enough to find a way to give them both plenty of work.

I won't even mind if he lines-up at TE. It's what he does after the snap that counts - not where he lines-up.

Exactly. You have two guys on the fiend who love to blow the defender off the line. Having Aston in the traditional FB role with Parrish in the blocking TE role, you achieve that. Not to mention both have the ability to catch the ball when other options are unavailable.

anxious to see how a run-heavy OC, coaching a team with a lot of talent with RBs and little talent with Wrs, will implement a 3 WR offense.. The thought of taking a Parrish/Aston type player off the field for Henderson or challingsworth, with an offense that should run the ball 60%+ of the time, is quite a contradiction... If you look at a lot of our successful runs last year and even in '14, they are behind a pulling "h back" and/or a full back.. You have your typical slot WR in there, you are losing that lead blocker..

We keep hearing about the 3 rbs on field at once, I see this as much more of a possibility than seeing 3 Wrs on the field on first or even second down..

1. I don't care what guys have done in the past or what year they are in school. Pitt should play the guys that best help them win games. Doesn't matter if it is a FR who has been on campus for 2 months, a SR who has started 3 years, or a JR who hasn't played a snap previously.

2. I hate the use of an I formation, so I am against a FB completely, but Parrish will play a ton as an Hback. I guess some people don't follow us/football enough to know what that is and that caused the concern?

I pretty much was going to write exactly what ripper wrote above. Complaining about Parrish as an H back isnt really logical, as he will be the lead blocker anyways more often than not.

Also agree, that if he isnt playing, I am OK with thinking he slipped some and that is the reason. That being said, I think he looked like a tremendous player for us and I think he will be this year as well.
