More than a few said we win “x amount” more games with him. So far 0-2 with him but don’t worry he will play lockdown D, set up others with his great playmaking skills and lead us to victory vs Wake 🙄.

Or more likely he will hit meaningless 3’s when the game is already over.

I just loved watching his early impact...screaming at Payton for following with a second left on the shot clock.

Dude has some nerve after what he did to his teammates missing the season because he's a petulant child, as we've seen with him again and again.

Horton doesn't matter at all. He's just a body that plays lazy basketball.
.

He's more of a liability than an asset. Other than Gye, we don't have an ACC-level player. Possibly Hugley, but only on some nights, if he feels like it.

Finally a factor, so props to Horton. The problem is how inconsistent his shot is, if he’s not super hot like he is tonight he gives you nothing due to lack of D, etc. But hey 1-5…wonder if Jerry will ask JC about his PT again haha.

If you watch Horton closely on defense- he's taking a negative step before picking up his lead foot. It is making him look slower than he should be- plus there's no chance he's in peak playing shape yet.

The footwork should have been corrected in the 3rd or 4th grade.

I listened to a large portion of the game on the radio, but I noticed at the end of the game that it looked like both sleeves of Horton's shirt were ripped. What was up with that? Pitt too cheap to get our players yellow t-shirts so he had to cut a long sleeve shirt?

Horton can be effective offensively when he is able to get open shots--partially on him--mostly on offensive movement and quick passing.

He is ineffective when he has to get his own shots--he doesn't have the dribble drive skills and doesn't shoot well off the dribble. He needs to be fed a pass so that he doesn't need to shoot off the dribble. That's what happened last night.

He is a league-average guard. People are ripping a kid who hasn't played in a year because of some bad games. Nobody is saying he is a premier player. But he is an ACC-level player.....an average one. And for a team without many of those, he can really help the team when he plays above average like he did tonight. Yes, he isnt good on defense but he has THAT potential for big offensive games. On a better team, he would be a bigger weapon as a role player.

I think this is a fair summary.

What would really make Horton more effective is having another person on the team that the opposition needs to respect from 3 . With Horton , Mo , Burton and Hugley plus the mythical other player ( Nike maybe ) and Femi Pitts offense might actually surprise you with how effective it could’ve been . It’s just been too easy to defend Pitt .

I think JC returns and replacing Mo won’t be easy ….(what a find , how was he at Stony Brooke ? ) , but they really need to find a pg with reasonable 3 pt skills .

He has pieces. He needs those pieces to improve and to find more pieces. He essentially needs a PG and a 4.

The funny thing last night, FSU didn't seem to respect Horton, as most of his looks came without a hand in his face.

FSU's complete disregard for Horton was ridiculous. He has a rep for getting hot. After he hit 2, they should have been all over him. But for those that knock the kid, this is what he brings. We probably dont beat FSU last night and probably have a few more wins on the year. When he gets hot, he is a big asset.

Everyone says "what a find" regarding Gueye but he's a different player than he was the previous 3 years. His development even from the start of the year has been pronounced. Very Champagnie-ish.

People give Forbes all types of credit for identifying and "developing" a benchwarmer from OU. Its 90% luck. Forbes may have thought the kid could start and help but, not in his wildest dreams would he think he'd be on the short list for ACC POY. He was basically JJ Moore at OU. And JJ Moore is an example of a kid, who I don't think anyone would have been shocked if his light actually went on at some point and he made a massive year over year improvement.

The Gueye find was mostly luck like Forbes/Williams. I am sure Capel thought he could help but there is no way he envisioned him being an NBA/G league 2 way player, which is where I see him next year. With his length and athleticism, he will play games in the NBA. Not sure how many, maybe a call up here or there but he's an example of a kid improving and maturing. 5 years ago, he averaged 5 PPG for Monroe Junior College.

That's what great coaching can do for a player!

Seriously, though, he has improved greatly and someone deserves some credit for helping him.

I went to the intra squad scrimmage and he stood out . ( in a very good way )

I posted on here after the Gannon game that he was an ACC level player and his game reminded of KD, though of course nowhere near as good. I rarely get player evaluations wrong.

Horton is a streaky shooter but his shot is better than last yr so having him on the floor opens things up for femi dribble drive Finishes at the hoop or kick it out to horton or mo or dump it to hugely or little opp to Mo just that threat opens people up to do what the do best. In a half court game we can now run a offense and function they can't just Collapse on hugley there for you can have ball movement at all parts of the court instead Perimeter passing. That's what made us look like we're not running no offense .

Btw reading through old posts (where you suggested playing Jeffress at the 4 as a 17 year old freshmen with AUDIESE Toney still on the roster, finkelstein) I noticed the old argument of Morton v Jeffress. Whatever happened to straight eye Larry? He still here and on a different name?

Smf original eval on Xavier Johnson:
“Xavier Johnson too. Wow, were they off on these 2 VA PG's. Both will be in the NBAfor sure.”

your evals can’t be wrong if you constantly change them

I did think Johnson was an NBA PG as a FR but he never improved. However, after watching him a few games, I was able to see he was much better than the #273 player or whatever he was ranked. Johnson did have NBA potential as a FR.

On Jeffress, he can't play the 3. He has no guard skills. I still say he should play the 4 and maybe get some garbage buckets and hustle plays.

So your eval was off. Got it
