I know Pitt and Boston College are two bottom feeding kind of teams right now in the ACC but this is an important game in my opinion.
Jeff Capel has to prove he can adjust a little bit, get his guys to play and stop this free fall. They have lost 8 of 10 and four in a row. This is year seven, it has to be better than this. And it can't be they just collapse and go away into the night and we keep moving forward because we have a big buyout.
If I am Allen Greene, I am watching this game and the ACC Tournament games very closely. I want to see if my coach can get his team to play hard and compete at a high level when they are playing out the string.
It is bad enough the arena will be empty tonight and I am sure it is going to be tough to push season tickets next year but if Capel can't show that he is still the guy to get this thing turned around, I am not sure what is next other than another wasted year next year.
The Panthers need to play well tonight, win the game, get to the highest seed of those that won't get a bye and then win a game or two. I know it won't ease all of the pain of this year and won't erase all of the questions but if they are lifeless tonight then go one-and-done in the ACC Tournament, I am sorry, buyout or not, if I am Greene, I have to wonder if it is time to move on.
I am fairly certain there will be changes coming based on conversations I have had and there may even be some that Capel is resistant to at first. But that is all about next year, this year is still going and it is important for this team to rebound and finish as strong as possible. They aren't going to win the ACC Tournament but they could win two games if they play well and that would at least show some signs of life.
I will have some thoughts after the game as will Karl and we will also have postgame video from both BC and Pitt.
The NIT discussion is our next discussion and I have thoughts about whether they should accept a bid to that tournament (not a sure thing, either, by the way) or not but that's a different discussion for a different day......
