and NCAA investigation was deeply flawed and a rush to judgment. Obviously this is true. The NCAA was so desiring to get this off the table and into the basement they rushed investigation, Freeh was rushed, they uncovered a lot, and presented to PSU, they figured PSU would accept with humility by the sheer volume of obvious and numerous cover ups that they would go quietly.

Penn State didn't.

Freeh and the NCAA and all concern should have continued to peel the onion, and uncover all of this. The rush to try and convict Sandusky was obvious. And it was easy. Was he railroaded? Well his defense team was a couple of incompetent boobs, but it was the easiest case. Boom. done.

But PSU was also being punished, along with Paterno and the Three Stooges. This was more complicated. It was institutional. It was an entire community, even state. But there is obvious a trail of dots that can be connected. And it if they wanted to punish and expose this for what it was, gross and reprehensible disregard for children's welfare in the name of pursuing a false bravado of football success with honor and Joe's legacy.

To think, if someone, anyone within Penn State or State College would have set aside the "inconvenience" and followed up any of these reports about Sandusky with a previous one, the monster would have been stopped, PSU would have a small bit of embarrassment but really not their fault, and this would have all been long over. Kids lives would not be ruined. PSU would not have this still hanging over its head.

Just the "don't care, have a football season to prepare for" mentality has landed them here. Great job. You guys are LUCKY the NCAA and Freeh Report didn't continue to dig.

How about this angle...

Paterno turns in Sandusky and is hailed as a hero for putting morals and the law above football.
But here is the problem. Paterno was never a coach. He was a CEO. What if this boils down to paterno panicking because he was going to lose his best coach, so he turned a blind eye. By 99 when jerry retired he had Bradley ready to take over, but by then, they were all knee deep in the cover up.

I am not saying this to be prejudicial or stereotypical. But even Joe's biggest supporters admit the following. Joe was Old School Italian from Brooklyn. La Casa Nostra was almost a way of life there. Ala Familigia. Keep it within the family. Don't air dirty laundry outside the family.

More and more JoePa is reminding me of Gotti. Gotti was beloved in his neighborhood, always putting money up for festivals and heritage days, keeping out the riff raff, but he was also a ruthless businessman who would take out any threat to his empire.

Exactly. Gricar would know

Man, that is the ultimate angle I would love to see investigated. It is there. Like the elephant in the room. But people don't seem to want to go there. It is weird that people had less fear of exploring the conspiracy of JFK's assassination than Ray Gricar's disappearance.

There is nothing there. A few years ago there was a report of someone seeing him in Italy. Unless he crawls back up, we will never know what happened there

Penn Live did a 10 year anniversary piece on the Gricar disappearance and they touched on several theories. FWIW, a Centre County attorney went on record saying the disappearance had something to do with PSU/Sandusky. She had no evidence or facts, just her opinion but I was thinking it is pretty dang bold of an ATTORNEY to go on record and make that leap, especially since she makes a living off what are mostly PSU fans I'd imagine.

I've said it on this board before and I'll stand by it: The Freeh report worked exactly the way PSU wanted it to and was perfect in that regard.

They "self reported" only what they wanted to see the light of day which kept the barbarians safely behind the gates. You actually have to hand it to the powers that be at Penn State. Played it very well. I expect Baylor to do the same.

And I've said it many times before. If they would have taken their medicine and shut up it would all be over.

But they wanted to seek the "truth".
And now it seems the "truth" keeps biting them in the ass.

Could you provide a link to that story? I'd be very interested in reading that.

those in power after the sanctions asked several times for the masses to shut up and take the punishments. It was the Joe Bots that couldn't let it go. Whoever made the decision to fight the insurance company about the payments was a idiot. Had they just paid the settlements when the insurance company balked we wouldn't have heard any of this stuff.
