The least amount of buzz ever for Pitt PSU

Idk, this at least is the 100th meeting and there’s been talks about the history since it’s likely the last. I think last year was by far the least amount of hype. It was a nationally televised prime time game that was barely even mentioned locally let alone nationally.

I’m cooking a prime rib roast during the game so I’ll catch what I can later.
The rivalry died near a generation ago in when PSU entered the Big Ten.

That's because everyone is expecting a blow out.

Yep. I've already made plans to get a few things done around the house and use this game as background noise. I'm 100 times less excited for this than I was for the season opener, and I wouldn't be surprised if I'm turning it off completely by halftime or the end of the third quarter.

Yeah maybe if Pitt didn't dash most Pitt fans hopes in the opener.
Pitt fans are scarred deep.
If Pitt would have won that game they would have been in the top 25 or at the very least receiving votes it would have gotten more attention.

Seriously,

No buzz, no excitement, no anticipation. Very little local attention and none rationally.

One of the greatest rivalries in CFB has become nothing more than another OOC game.

Let's just be done with this. Kick their ass tomorrow and never look back.
I blame McKee Place for pissing in everyone's Cheerios about this game...

(Now waiting for his 6 paragraph justification...) :p

Does this rivalry even matter to anyone under the age of 30 and also didn't grow up in Western PA?

It's sad, but Pitt has buried itself as a D1 football program the last 35 years, they are no more relevant than Temple or Rutgers. everyone expects the powerhouse/blue blood, Penn State to roll big, Pitt has no respect or expectations nationwide, sorry, it's true. I'll DVR the game, my daughter is playing in a D3 women's soccer game at 1:30, that game has way more BUZZ for me, I'll be there, LOL

Sure, plenty of soccer moms are there. I'm just going for the sport though, not looking to hook up. I guarantee that it will be a far more exciting game, probably close and not a total blowout.

For sure, I am honestly way more excited for my kids' games tomorrow.

I'm with you brother! My daughter's school, Howard is ranked #9 nationally (NJCAA D3) and a good team, from NJ, Rowan, is coming in, will probably be a close, tough game.

Of course, my daughter will probably play at least 15-20 minutes. And I just have this feeling Pitt is going to get smoked. Plus I'm DVRing it and will see it a few hours later.

I was just teasing you. I hope your daughter has a great game. Have fun!

I don't think rivalry games matter much anymore to the general public unless they garner national attention (via ratings). It seems to me that colleges are more interested in how to ensure long-term financial stability for their athletic programs, and as long as the bottom line is met who they play and how the money arrives is of little importance. The game matters to me, and I hope Pitt does well. The absence of the game being played over a few years and for the foreseeable future has further dampened this game for bragging rights in the Keystone.

Having watched our Virginia and Ohio games and PSU vs Buffalo I am expecting that if we play the best we are able the final score will be something like PSU 38--Pitt 13.

So, since I am not a masochist, I will find other things to do rather than experience the pain of watching. If by some miracle we do manage a very highly unlikely upset I will watch a replay of the game later. If it turns out as expected or worse, I won't bother to even watch the replay.

I'll watch the replay either way, FFing as needed, depending on how bad it is.

I mean....it's because unfortunately the Panthers got absolutely smoked the last 2 games. Only Polyannas try and act like 51-6 didn't happen, vs only a 9-4 Penn State team.

And already disappointing this year is QB play most of all -- but then the terrible pass drops, and kind of lackluster OL and RB play all on offense makes this matchup feel....maybe the word I'm looking for is insurmountable?

PIZZES ME OFF Franklin coming in, having multiple top 10 finishes, and reeling-off top 10-15 recruiting classes each year to be honest lol.

I just hope Pitt fans who are hesistant to watch, all tune in IF the game turns out to be a real close one, like Notre Dame last year. Because you NEVER know.

If it's a loss, it's a loss ya know? But anything could happen -- and it might be a Program Changer to win this one....

I’ll be more surprised if I don’t have to shut it off due to the score by then.

What qualifies as a blowout in D3 Women's Soccer? 3-0?

IMO the DVR has contributed (along with online sights like youtube) to some loss of interest in sports, at least for me. Why watch now when I have stuff to do? I can do errands or workout out on saturday, watch the game on a delay, then do something with my wife after or vice versa.
And good luck to your daughter and her team also.

The last decade or so, I rarely watch any Pitt NOON games live unless I attend, I live in Baltimore, NOBODY cares about the Pitt score in Baltimore, if I stay off social media, I can even walk around Baltimore all day wearing a Pitt jersey and nobody will mention the game or the score, so I eat dinner, turn on the game around 6-7 pm have a few beers and enjoy it. At noon, I hate games that early, kind of ruins the day, unless you go, even then it's not enjoyable at that time, you come of there thinking "what now?".... AND THANKS.

do continue...fascinating stuff...

Where has this board gone to? It pisses me off to be honest. The same fans in here that still preach about 13-9 were probably going blowing that game off too because of Pitt record that year. Fake fans. Have some damn hope. Can we get blown out? Damn right, but we can also go down into CFB lore tomorrow and beat those asses who talk down to us like we mean no good. I am going tomorrow and will be screaming my head off for the panthers while we have olds in here bragging that its not even on their radar. Fake fans like you read about. Imagine posting on a teams football message board, during your free time, yet not watching or supporting the team. Honestly, fans like that, just leave. But when we possibly upset these guys tomorrow. Don't jump back on the bandwagon, i will remember who you are and will call your butt out every time you post. Now on to University Park. HAIL TO PITT!

Honestly with Pitt and PSU in different conferences this game means nothing. And playing at the beginning of the season makes it even worse

I don't think we'd go into College Football lore for beating the #13 team in the country in a September noon game.

As an old...old...timer...1976, section 16, "Wesley's Eyebrows"...I can't tell you how sad this makes me.

In those days, we just lived for that last game...no matter what happened during the season...no matter how good things were, no matter how bad things were, it didn't matter. "WE STILL HAVE PENN STATE!"

Now we look past that early game...and expect to lose it anyway!. Understandable, given the condition of the Pitt program, but just hard to believe that a loss is what we are conditioned to accept. But it is...

Sigh...

Absolutely correct. I noticed it too. And it is entirely on Pitt for being absolutely terrible and embarrassing to watch, even if you aren’t a fan.

51-6! Can you imagine telling your friends that you watched a 51-6 game if you didn’t have a connection to either team? Who wants to see Alabama blow out an unknown SEC or other obscure team 51-6? Alabama fans do and no one else does

Tomorrow will likely be similar. PSU fans will watch the entire game as their team fires on all cylinders and has a score fest. The only Pitt fans watching will be those too drunk to know what is going on or that want their free bottle of water for staying until the fourth quarter. Everyone else will think it is a terribly boring game

There is also the unlikely scenario that Pitt loses late by less than 10 and plenty here will celebrate as if it were a victory and we are a 1-2 team on the way to a national championship. I’m not looking forward to that either.

So , no excitement unless you bleed blue and white
