Pitt does not release salaries or contract details but based in internet info here is the mess that Pitt's new AD Heather Like inherited.
Virtually every sports program was a mess with little recent history of success. They have not been competitive in the ACC in any sport. Recently we have seen a turn around in volleyball, men's soccer and wrestling. There is reason to believe Pitt will sustain the success in these three programs.
Here are some of the contracts that appear to be in place:
Steve Pederson $600,000 per thru the 2017-18 school year.
(Chancellor Nordenberg)
Pat Narduzzi $2,000,000 per thru the 2021-22 school year.
(Scott Barnes extension)
Kevin Stallings $2,300,000 per thru the 2021-22 school year
(Scott Barnes)
Suzie McConnell $600,00 per thru the 2020-21 school year.
(Scott Barnes extention)
Pitt football attendance is down and as we saw last night basketball attendance looks like a nightmare. Pitt had to give free tickets to the North Carolina football game to pad the crowd.
Heather Lyke might be forced a sign a contract to tarps for football and basketball. It is going to be hard to eat contracts when ticket sales are in the dumps.
Financially it would be very tough to dump these three coaches at the same time. Narduzzi probably is safe for two years. Next year's schedule is brutal. He probably has the best chance of turning his program around but it is not a guarantee.
There is no easy way out of this mess. I feel bad for Heather Lyke. Fortunately for her she will be given time to eventually hire replacements.
