What a performance yesterday against Kentucky for Emma Monks....8 blocks and 8 kills....superb. This prompted me to look at her overall 2022 stats at Michigan State. Here goes....

Monks
Hitting % - .354
kills/set - 1.93
blocks/set - 1.04
points/set - 2.52

And for fun....here are the same stats in 2022 for Bre Kelley when she was at the University of Florida

Kelley
Hitting % - .351
Kills/set - 1.85
Blocks/set - 1.13
Points/set - 2.53

If we thought Emma was going to be a downgrade versus Bre after her injury....well maybe not so much. These stats are essentially identical. And don't forget the X factor....Dan Fisher. We all know he has the uncanny knack to bring out the best in all of his athletes.

Finally....here's how Kelley, Jepson, and Monks are doing after 5 games. Don't beat me up for this. I know it's a small sample size. As a trio....they are averaging a .425 hitting %, 1.92 kills/set, 1.43 blocks/set, and 2.74 points/set. These numbers probably won't stay that lofty as the season goes on....but we can be pretty happy at the moment. Once Nwokolo gets healthy and enters the mix....we will be in even better shape.

I ask this in no way sarcastically… what makes Dan Fisher so good?

I know he has turned us into a top-ranked program and is clearly an amazing recruiter…but I don’t know enough about him to understand how he’s so successful. Anybody around the program know what makes him this good? Thanks!

Well let's see....I could bore you with my own favorite examples and the glowing statistics that have made Pitt volleyball one of the most successful.....if not the most successful athletic program at the the university. I won't. Instead take the time to read the article below....recently published in Pitt Magazine. I think it will answer your question....and by the way....it was a good question.
