The moment Robinson's career peaked

I was at the game at The Pete at the end of the 2012-13 season when Pitt played Villanova on Senior Day for Tray Woodall and Dante Taylor. Steven Adams was out with an injury. Pitt was down 3 late in the game and I remember Robinson coming off a screen and nailing a corner three to tie the game. In the final minute, he played great D on fellow freshman Ryan Arcidiacano and hit a few FTs down the stretch to ice the victory in the final Big East regular season game in Pitt history.

I remember being excited about the next 3 years and that Pitt once again had a PG on the level of Knight, Krauser and Fields.

As it turns out, he never got better from that day forward.

What are the odds.

At the time, I recall thinking that he needs more speed, a 3-pt shot, and a teardrop in the lane would be helpful. Shooting skills usually can improve with repetition if mechanics are good, but speed and quickness are often like height--you are what you are. Since he was on the bulky side as far as PG's go, I thought there was a possibility he could slim down to attain more quickness and vertical leap. That was then.

With that being stated, his four years of all-out effort will be remembered and respected in my book.

I'm not sure that's fair. Robinson did improve from the moment, and had many more equal or better moments since.

But I won't argue at all that he never became what we thought he would after moments like that in his freshman year. He got better, but not nearly like it looked like he might.

Robinson could have been/should have been the next Knight or Fields, but the teams that he was on needed more than a floor leader, they needed a point guard who could take

the team on his back and win. If you replaced the Krauser era with Robinson at point guard, he maybe held in higher esteem. Robinson made some timely shots to win some games, but he never had a guard next to him that could be counted on to provide a threat from the outside or adequate defense.

Robinson never quit. Hopefully as time passes the warts that were so apparent while he played will subside. He was the floor general of a rudderless ship.

If it wasn't for his inability to shoot, penetrate or defend he would have been an excellent PG. But he didn't and it killed his teams against most higher level teams.

Think about how many times in games when the offense breakdowns and you are left with your point guard needing to make a play. With JRob, Pitt way to often left with their worst shooter jacking up some garbage or even worse not even get a shot off. Compare that to teams that had scoring/athletic PGs- they blew by JRob or would rise over him for a wide open look.

That's every game. I venture to guess JRob lead the nation in career nights against. It was like clockwork, a shooting/athletic PG having a career night at the Pete. That's on coach as much as the player.
