Dante Moore is in the portal. Last year, I believe he was named the top QB at the Elite Eleven, was a consensus top 20 prospect and was anywhere from the top 1 to top 3 QB prospect.

He committed initially to Oregon, then signed with UCLA. He was annointed the successor to Dorian Robinson-Thompson or Thompson-Robinson, and started the opening game. He threw for 1600 yards and 11 TDs but also 9 interceptions. He lost his job midseason to Ethan Garbers, a portal transfer from Washington. Garbers got hurt in the season finale against Cal and Moore replaced him, and was terrible.

He is receiving interest from a lot of major players: USC, Washington and Oregon, all of which will have to replace portal starting QBs; his home state schools of Michigan and Michigan State; many more. But, the interesting thing is that except for MSU, none of them sees him as their guaranteed starting QB in 2024. He now is viewed as a project, but with an extraordinary upside.

It just goes to show how exceptionally hard it is to evaluate QBs; and also how stupid it was to guarantee Jurkovec the starter’s role, if Pitt in fact did that.

Meanwhile, if it is true that ND is after a starter in the portal because Hartmann, the Wake Forest transfer, finally exhausted his eligibility after what seems like an entire decade, what does that say about/to Kenny Minchey? Could he end up back at Pitt?
