Since Pitt is drafting teams for this year's spring game, and since the spring game will actually be a game, I thought we could have a little fun with it. So we're going to hold the first ever Panther-Lair.com Spring Game Fantasy League, and everyone is welcome to join.
Here's how it will work:
Everyone who is interested in participating should reply to this thread by Wednesday, April 15; that's when Pitt is expected to hold its player draft. Once that draft takes place, we'll pair off all the participants in one-on-one head-to-head matchups; each matchup will begin drafting here on the message board starting that night, and the fantasy drafts will close at the end of the day on Friday, April 17.
EDIT: Just to be clear about how this will work. Each matchup - you and your opponent - will have its own draft thread here on the message board. After the Pitt players draft their teams on Wednesday, April 15, I'll post a thread for each matchup in our fantasy league, and then you and your opponent have until the end of the day Friday, April 17, to draft out your teams. That way, you've got about 48 hours to do it, which should be a bit more flexible for people's schedules.
After the drafts are entered, we'll make a master list of the rosters for each "team." Then we'll calculate fantasy stats for each matchup based on Pitt's officially-released stats from the spring game, and we'll see who emerges as the winner of each matchup, as well as the best - and worst - overall scores.
I think this will be fun, and here's how I think the rosters will look. Each team manager will draft the following:
1 quarterback
1 running back
2 receivers
1 tight end
2 defensive linemen
2 linebackers
2 defensive backs
3 flex players
1 team defense
That will make for 15 rounds. The flex players can be at any position, offense or defense. The team defense will be either Blue or Gold; we'll wait to start our drafts until after Pitt has drafted the actual teams so we know who is on which team. Basically, one team will have the Blue defense and one will have the Gold.
Scoring will be as follows (pretty standard fantasy format):
Passing: 1 point for every 25 yards, 6 points for every touchdown, -2 points for every interception
Rushing/receiving: 1 point for every 10 yards, 6 points for every touchdown, -2 points for every fumble lost
Individual defensive players: .5 points for every tackle, 1 point for every TFL, 2 points for every sack, 4 points for every interception, 4 points for every fumble recovery, 6 points for every defensive touchdown
Team defense: 0 points allowed - 10 points; 1-6 points allowed - 7 points; 7-13 points allowed - 4 points; 14-20 points allowed - 1 point; 21-27 points allowed - 0 points; 28-34 points allowed - minus-1 point; 35 or more points allowed - minus-2 points; Interception - 2 points; fumble recovery - 2 points; sack - 1 point; safety - 2 points; defensive touchdown - 6 points
Also, any kick return or punt return touchdown counts as 6 points for the individual player. No points for return yardage, though. And we're not drafting kickers.
Like I said, I think this will be pretty fun (but I'm a big fan of fantasy sports, so that helps). If you're interested in participating, reply to this thread by Wednesday, April 15.
