The PG at it again. Another fluff piece on PSU Football

If that is what an nfl first round draft pick looks like, my condolences to NFL fans because your product sucks..

With teams able to select from a crop of Connor Cook (Mich State), Cardale Jones (O$U), Jared Goff (UCal), Cod Kessler (USC)...I'm not sure how Hackenburg can still be considered a first round draft pick.

To be fair I didn"t see where it said NFL 1st pick perhaps the CFL not sure if British Columbia needs a QB ?

I think the PG resurrected that article from 'Moron-elli's' senior season.

The most ridiculous sentence of this article is "Even though Hackenberg completed 11 of 25 passes for 103 yards, the Lions overall offensive performance created doubts about the his talent and the skills of those around him." This implies that "11 of 25 passes for 103 yards" is some sort of acceptable performance level for a QB projected to go #1 in the NFL draft.

I watched some of the highlights ( highlights for Temple, lowlights for UPS) and he looked indecisive and slow to me. He needs a real QB coach to coach him up.

explaining how Hackenburg's problems can help him overcome adversity in the NFL.

He has no pocket presence, his footwork is bad, he holds the ball too long, he is not quick enough to avoid a rush when he sees one coming, when a receiver is open he misses them almost 50% of the time. His decision making is still questionable because of the lack of protection.

He has good size and a strong arm. Other than that, I don't see the hype.

The Temple linebackers said that after Temple took the lead you could tell by the look on his face that he did not want to be there. Still can't believe they kept him in the game late in the 4th Quarter when the game was over. It was only risking him getting hurt or frustrating him more. Hell, when Temple rushed two and got by 5 linemen and a running back to sack him, they have to feel lucky he didn't get injured.

Again, like my post about attendance, it's the proper context. This is the same rag that had TWO Heisman voters who DIDN'T vote for Larry Fitzgerald for Heisman (and still defend that to this day). Who yawned when Aaron Donald won every award BUT the Heisman 2 years ago. But THIS guy is automatically the best college QB.

To this day nobody in the Pittsburgh media who covered Marino (and it probably says everything needed that most of them were working in 1982) think he was worthy of being the Steelers' top pick that year, even though they drafted an alcoholic who smashed himself into a paraplegic and were cursed with gibrones like Mark Malone, Scott Campbell, Cliff Stoudt and Steve Bono for a decade because they overlooked Marino. Yet THIS guy is a no-brainer top prospect.

Of course though, we all know how this is shaping up. He'll drop in the draft (cuz nobody else is as delusional as Pittsburghers), and the Steelers will snap him up in a middle round (cuz the Steelers can't resist drafting underachieving Nits). He'll become Ben's Heir Apparent. And the Great Legend of Hackenberg will continue in Pittsburgh. "He thrilled us at Penn State and now he's continuing as the next great Steelers quarterback!"

IMO, this has been what I have seen from day one with him, mostly.

O'Brien was able to coach him up, but even then I didn't see the hype about him.
He has some Jay Cutler type physical skills, GOOD, not Elwayish by any means.
But, the kids head is S O F T.
Always has been.

“Penn State’s struggles will give him plenty of opportunities to adjust and to learn how to handle that [pressure],” Rang said.

I loved the last sentence. The OL ineptness will teach him how to run for his life.

if this happens, and I understand how people go overboard with statements, I swear to all things holy, to the lord above, I would never watch the Steelers again.. OK, as long as he was on the roster. If we picked him up as FA and he battled it out with Landry jones for 3rd string, I would be ok with that but if we drafted him in the first 3 rounds as Ben's replacement, I would swear off professional football. Let it be said, let it be written and let it come to pass.

I think he gets drafted by Houston and jettisons out of there in February. That will preserve him being taken in the first two rounds regardless of how poor his game performance.

Pitt fans seem to forget what some of our recent OLs did to QBs.

O'Brien has been looking for his guy and he'll probably cut Savage next year and make Hack his project.

It seemed that the purpose of the article was to deflect all blame for PSU's ineptness onto Hack n' Sack, thereby absolving their legendary coach and his unrivaled staff of any blame.
Hackenberg is no Marino, but he is a far better QB than the confused man who has spent the last two years under the tutelage of the brilliant Dominatrix.

I caught that too. This leads me to believe this Audrey lady doesn't quite grasp the nuances of football.

Isn't this a bit like saying if you are not happy with Pitt football, stop buying tickets and watching them on TV? It's OK to read a newspaper for it's content yet still be critical of some of that content.

If he's already struggling with the pressure after his first game, by the end of the season -- if he's not all busted-up -- he's gonna have a bad case of the yips. The tough teams on the schedule will really be teeing off on him. If he thought that Temple's "D" was tough, just wait 'til he plays the big boys on the schedule.

Not when you obsess with it to the point you cry about every little perceived slight.

The most ridiculous thing about this is...even PSU fans are at the point with Frankie where they are disgusted with his coaching...play calls...etc....but wait....here comes the PG to the rescue with sugarcoating galore to save everyone from their misery.....don't forget that half gallon of peachy paterno folks....or your 6 pack of paterno pisswater....

And yes the fact these are the same writers who covered Marino in 1980 is part of the problem for sure......

Huh? The Steelers have drafted 1 PSU player in the last decade and it was a 7th round pick of an overachieving Center. Only 1 player as high as the 4th round in 40 years. Where does some of this stuff come from?

"...some projected him as high as the No. 1 overall pick." o_O

Well, maybe if the Temple D would actually have let him get a few more passes off, he might have demonstrated his "number one" PICK quality. (Sharif Finch flagged one of them down and nearly took it to the house.)
