Many places. but not all
The SEC rarely takes or needs players from outside their geographic span. With all respect to Robert Foster and Joe Nameth (a half century plus ago), the best players come from the South and there are a ton of them.
Look at NFL rosters for proof.
The recent commitments for Pitt tells me that our future is with players from somewhere else.
Many pair of undies are in bunches over WPIAL players going elsewhere.
Why?
You guys want to keep throwing your line in a lake with few fish and many lines, be my guest.
Take the WPIAL and give it to the MAC. 50% of nothing is far less than 1% of a big number. Georgia, Florida, and other southern states are where our future lies.
Put a FOR SALE sign on the WPIAL. The ROI there is mostly cosmetic and far too expensive.
Go south for players and give Mike White a reason to write a complete sentence for once while Pitt looks elsewhere.

this all or nothing mentality you guys have with the wpial is beyond funny.. Yes, it's either 100% or 0%, there's no in-between.. good grief people..

recruit florida, recruit the south (Which we are), recruit NJ, Oh and dc metro area (which we are) and recruit the few good players in the wpial (which we are). if some of them come here (which they do), then great, if some of them don't (which they do), then you move on..

It's not that hard to grasp here fellas.

.

our undies are not in a bunch, you are the only one complaining about the wpial players going elsewhere. most of us realize that we'll get some and lose some and you recruit locally and out of state. you don't ignore your backyard in the future cause some kid from McKeesport went to Michigan in 2015.

you are the one that's upset..

If you look at the SEC states and compare the quality of those players to WPIAL players there's no comparison.

PITT must compete for SEC region players.

WPIAL doesn't have the numbers or quality to support a top level D1/P5 football program.

The only way to make in-roads into the SEC and other states is to have coaches on staff who are tied into the player pipelines for the "rich" HS football regions!

So far we seem to be happy with coaches who aren't from those regions?
To get good recruiters from lucrative states PITT will have to pay up!

I have never complained about them going elsewhere. I just don't care about them of they do. Thong too tight this morning?

once again, you are the only one complaining. you are complaining about us complaining and we aren't complaining. you started a post, literally complaining about us complaining and NO ONE is complaining but you.

but yeah, on a side note, to answer your question, I did buy myself a few pairs of men's thong underwear and I am still getting used to this sensation. I feel invaded and sexy at the same time..

There are limits to visits from a coach. Your question is vintage 1974. Step up to the 1990s at least.

I apologize if it is not clear that I was not suggesting the coach brought the kid supper every night. You made an outrageously stupid post and you're feeling salty this morning. Calm down.

How much of an investment is it for Pitt to recruit the WPIAL? The answer is next to zero. Especially when you compare it to buying air travel so Tim Salem can post pictures from all over the country. So if your ROI is zero on next to zero investment, it's kind of stupid to complain about what a "waste" it is.

its Monday, raining. he's salty, im wearing thong underwear so im experiencing things right now no man should, you are upset.. we all seem to have a bad case of the Mondays..

My main point is that you don’t ignore the few good local recruits cause you were scorned in the past. It makes no sense. Of course you don’t put all your eggs in the wpial basket and obviously we aren’t doing that. But to ignore the few good ones around here, why would you do that?

I don't understand an "all or nothing" approach. I'd even argue that if Pitt is going to reach for kids, they should do it in their own back yard. A borderline P5 kid from Penn Hills would do a lot of good for the psyche of the local HS coaching experts than some kid from rural NY.

I think this is where you will get a lot of arguments. Throwing out these golden nuggets to local coaches to build goodwill when it’s debatable that wpial coaches don’t seem to be helping pitt out with higher rated kids.

I kind of agree with the other side here. Get the best kid you can and don’t worry about doing the locals any favors cause they aren’t doing any for you.

A lot of the local recruiting problems stem from the fact that some of the local HS guys feel slighted because they're little "diamonds in the rough" aren't good enough for Pitt. We saw Pitt add Sirvocea Dennis (NJ) on LOI day while PSU added Daequan Hardy (Penn Hills). Neither one of them will likely contribute at a P5 school. But now there is a Penn Hills coach that's chest thumping because he thinks James Franklin is his new best friend. The next legit kid from Penn Hills is going to get pushed towards Happy Valley. That's my only argument for paying some attention to the local guys because it is a lot easier (and cheaper) to recruit these kids. But if Pitt was putting together a string of ten win seasons without any WPIAL kids, it sure as heck wouldn't bother me, either.

Couple a random thoughts:
You don’t put all your eggs in the WPIAL basket but u most def have to work your way outward.
Why not go Commando? Thong seems intrusive.
You don’t send Rob Harley into our Pipeline schools and most importantly you don’t mess around with Jim (ask Jim Croce).

Back before I got married I lived in a well known neighborhood known for its "family" atmosphere, good schools....affordable Homes for young people , lots of kids......

As the only single guy on my street, on Halloween I would put on tight jeans and stuff a pepperoni down there.

Answer the door.....soccer moms eyes would light up.....

Meanwhile the kids would smile ear to ear....

as I whipped out.........

A big bowl of milky way bars

You're dumber than I realized when I originally ignored you. Watch that airfare. Recruit by horse and buggy. And by recruiting the WPIAL over the last 30 plus years has brought Pitt what exactly?
But good luck in your next interview for director of recruiting. You're going to need it.

The best players at Pitt have mostly been from our region. A couple of major exceptions wore 99 & 87, but I can't recall other All-Americans from long distances.
Of course, most of our coaches lately have been from the north....Fraud graham the exception.

Idk what specifically you mean by region. Western PA? The "tank of gas" that would get you Philly or maybe NJ and half of Virginia? I can think of a lot of impact players who came from outside of that:

Romeus
Sheard
HB Blades
Dion Lewis
Voytik
Jester Weah
Pretty much all of our current DL starters that everyone is very high on

Maybe considered outside the region:
TJ Clemmings
Ray Graham
KWuan Williams
Ffrench
Brian O'Neil
Quadree Henderson

Imagine some of our teams without Lewis and Ray Graham? Without Jester Weah? Clemmings and O'Neil were probably our best OL players in 10 years.

Our region is more than Western PA. We always got talent from the east coast
Neither Voytik nor Weah were consequential.

Weah had almost 1600 receiving yards in 2 seasons. He's probably pushing the team's top 15 all-time in career and single-season receiving yards which is impressive given that he played 2 years and 1 of those was with Ben Dinucci and Max Browne.

We win 2 games without Voytik in 2014.

So you're wrong.

The WPIAL still provides some decent OL-men and Pitt has benefited enormously. One, possibly two are going to start this season. Fullback. Like, both of the safeties. A cornerback. Those are just off the top of my head as the projected starters but all WPIAL guys. So possibly a quarter of the starters are WPIAL kids. Quite a few more will inhabit the two deep. You should probably brush up on who plays for the school your root for.

But I'm the dumb one.

You're entitled to your opinion.....and I disagree. You have no idea what might have happened in 2014. Voytik was shelved pretty quickly. Good kid, for sure. And I'd rather they threw to Rah-Rah than Jester. Better hands, better routes.

You are right that Voytik was a great kid, and I'm sure he's just as great a young man now.

I expected a lot from Voytik when he came to Pitt, but it just wasn't there to get. He even got benched when he transferred to Arkansas State.

Decent OL. Ok, I'll Grant you that. Meanwhile, the ROI in Florida and Georgia is kicking ass.

Lousy ROI so far for PN in Florida and Georgia isn't it? Both crappy HS football states to boot. Maybe PN should camp outside the North Hills High locker room and recruit Lavar. Oh, I keep forgetting, Lavar graduated from high school more than 2 decades ago.

Hayes from Westinghouse selects Pitt. Great get. Note that the arrogant SOBs of the WPIAL refused entry to City League teams.
WPIAL lives in the past as Joe Willie does Medicaid commercials that post his exact verbiage for the elderly hearing impaired.
