The rotund UPS kicker

I don't think anyone is condoning anything. We are giving reasons as to why it's happened to him TWICE in the last few weeks.

How many kickers have been flattened this year on kickoffs??? Show me one besides Julius. The answer is ZERO.

There is a reason it happened to him more than once. It has been stated a few times already on this thread.

One second he bolts down the field and clothes lines a ball carrier, but then flops to the ground when he gets hit from the blindside. You can't have it both ways. I have no sympathy for kickers that stick their noses in the action. A kicker should be the last line of defense, not a gunner...

Clothesline?

Never happened.
"Never happened"? That's the typical Nit response to everything that you guys don't like. The Sandusky sexual assaults...the cover-ups by your coaches and Administrators...just pretend that it never happened, and it'll all fade away.

We call that The Costanza Defense: George Costanza said the same thing on "Seinfeld": just act like it never happened.

Meanwhile, your school remains a punchline for derision, as demonstrated on SNL this past weekend.

Julius is kind of a weird cat and has become something of a cult hero in Happy Valley. Guys like that can parlay that identity into something later on.

There's nothing worse for a kick return unit player than to get run over or have the kicker make a play inside your 20. That kind of film really stings. Now, for what it's worth, the hits that were flagged were late and he sold them. That's okay too but players and coaches from other schools will notice that stuff. Don't be shocked if he gets planted for real at some point.

I think it started with him going making big hits, and then people started hitting him.

Although recently, people have been hitting him late. Guys got ejected the last two games for late hits away from the play.
Could someone explain to me the basis for the ejections? Since when did late hits warrant them?

I could be wrong, but I think it was more of a "targeting" flag than a late hit. Targeting will get you tossed.

Agree, I like JJ's Moxie, Honesty, and making the kicking game fun to watch again!

All JJ did is decide he would tackle as a Kicker and did it with some big hits on the returners and it was OK for other Players to block him back but not after the whistle, to be fair?

Anyway one wants to look at it, JJ has brought attention, excitement, and controversy for being himself, and not running away from his weight eating problems as he calls them, but talking about his struggles with them and not hiding it!

This is the opposite of what happen to Steelers or Browns Kickers one fired for not tackling and the other traded for not doing it in a Exhibition Practice Pre-season game?

The hypocrisy comes from us the Fans, Commentators, and Media. On one hand 2 Kickers not making tackles are cut and the one CFB Kicker making them is made fun of somehow? Sorry, I must defend such Honest Moxie and unlike Manziel admits to problems and working on them?

JJ's Kicking has improved as well. I can compliment any player being honest, playing like he wants to, and taking penalties shots and not complaining about it, but just keeps doing what he wants to do, workings out his own self-described problems, and within the rules.

If JJ played at Pitt and did the same things and got hit late I would back him just like I compliment his plays, kicking, and moxie now. JJ is OK with me and is just playing a new game most Kicker avoid putting themselves in Harms Way either way.

One can get hurt making tackles and getting blocked by those to prevent them. If he goes down it can hurt the Team, but he is also inspiring his Team Mates showing how he produces not only kicking but hitting too?

If I was Franklin I would design a kind of Fake FG Play where JJ get the pass like Pitt's O'Neil and runs for a TD as he lumbers and pushes his way into the End Zone! Now that would be something to watch?

Penn State's JJ deserves respect and recognition and a salute as far as I am concern and others can disagree with no offense taken.

If it was up to me, he would be my New Subway "Jared" AD Person and making sure he changed his eating habits and donate much of the money made to Children Protection Center at Penn State and matched by Nike, PMA, or another Booster.

What better way to showcase how Penn State has changed and another way for Subway to refute how "Jared" shamed Subway's name?

JJ is alright in every way!

That was kind of where I was going...Targeting by definition involves the head (leading with or hitting another's) or leaving your feet.. none of which applies to this hit. Simple after the whistle side blow by someone with feet planted to a 260lb kid. Had it been an after the whistle (or for that matter during play) hit on anyone else there would have been no ejections.... It was not targeting. I would love to hear an official's justification using the rule.

Funny they don't like it but when Lavar Arrington wanted to go all WWE on our punter back in like 2001 they loved it.

You make a great point and hard to disagree, but what I never saw JJ complaining about it at all? I agree that needs reviewed and JJ should be instructed he could keep getting hit, but i don't think he cares either.

To him, he looks like the Player with the kind of Heart that if his Team gets 15 Yards out of a Ref Call Hit on Him, so be it! JJ will take it for the Team! I really think JJ is something special as a person, student, player, and teammate. JJ is becoming a PSU Alumni Legend and could change how all Kickers play the Game?

Sure some can make fun of him, and say the calls either way are unfair too, that is fair too.

I just don't think JJ cares, he is just being himself. In Today's Social Media Era, if you get 30,000 Followers on Facebook, Publishers will come after you to produce a Book! Best Book Sellers are only about 35,000!

Pretty soon JJ might be an ESPN or BTN happening Highlight Clip every Half Time & Late Night Show. So, expect more from JJ, because he looks like a "No Quit Hit Kick To Boot Other Players Not Just The Ball!" A Catchy Phrase I might add!

And there will be nothing coming out of it.
Are you talking about your posts? We already know it!

Penn State did a great job in making Title IX & Clery Act Compliance its first priority and correcting the errors from that Penn State Football Era, it was over 1200 Pages, and required many Penn State New Policies so it has already proved what Penn State was doing wrong!

In spite of your attacks on Penn State University the PSU 2012 Reforms refuted you and you can't change what happen, they rejected all of your beliefs, myths and lies. Go back to your Dumpsters Hunting you will find your mind there!

Pretty sure he is referencing the fact that today has been designated "National Coming Out Day".... he is hedging what he should do or not do on a personal level...

I realize it's the free board, but can't Peak pay some college kid like a case of Natty Light a week to just remove obvious Nitters and obvious Nitter trolls with Pitt ID's from the board? Hell, I might be willing to buy a kid a case a week to do it so I don't have to read threads from guys saying "I'm at the game, I'm taking pictures" and then reading later "what's with these announcers?"

You're fighting my fight bro... Been saying that for as long as I been on this board

Freak in heaven...rich.

Bryant is stoking furnaces.
Neither Bryant or Paterno are in Hell, Great Coaches, and had much time to make peace with anyone before one retired and the other fired, Joe broke the 409 but not one of those wins were against Bryant.

Only one living in a Hell Dumpster is you, not respected nor accepted on any Boards due to your posting filth from only your own mind.

Even Peachy Paterno Ice Cream Football Legacy Culture has been changed to a better Yogurt Penn State Living Football Culture cleansed by the Penn State 2012 Reforms.

Joe was a Great Coach but the University had to protect Penn State name from further shame even under Paterno's fame!

It is a far better University today because the pain is in the past due to current Policies of Reforms for the future so no Shame can happen again to Penn State Name.

You can't bring back the trash you keep trying to find in Dumpsters, it is a New Dawn at Penn State.

The ejections were because the hits were away from the play and well after the whistle. There is a more technical definition but basically you can't just go blindside a guy who is casually jogging down the field 5 seconds after the whistle. Both plays were blown dead long before the hit. Targeting had nothing to do with either.

JJ has a target on his back now and opponents want to show him up. He got into it with a Maryland player on an earlier kickoff and the hit was retaliation.

The reason Lavarr wasn't ejected back in 99 was because that all took place before the whistle. He just took it way too far.

Agree with you and UMD Coach did suspend his own Player too?

True, and I posted way above he has brought great attention to himself and his disorder and style of play that is allow as well. I salute him?

Long time ago, but JJ is New Star Today!

I haven't seen them all - the "hit" in the Pitt game was a pretty good acting job but I also did see one where he did get cheap shotted.
And he 100% deserves every and all cheap shots that come his way. Might be the only college football player in America I'd call "completely unlikable"...and he's a kicker.

Explain why he deserves to get blind sided 5 seconds after the whistle?
It's called karma. Don't act like a d-bag and expect nobody to do something back. Obviously it should be a penalty when it's that late, but clearly he's frustrated guys enough for them to not care.
