I hate how that looks bad on the defense, but if you dig into the numbers:
Duke’s QB was 18/43 for < 200 yards, threw 2 int’s (plus their WR threw one on the failed trick play) and sacked three times.
Duke as a whole averaged 2.79 yds/carry on the ground.
Run and pass combined, less than 300 yards. Meanwhile Pitt has had games with close to 400-500 yards and only 10-20 points to show for.
So basically it was dumb mistakes - penalties (some BS but still) and gifted short fields with turnovers.
The only real moment I was frustrated with the defense was that kid getting so wide open for the go ahead TD in the end. Another great performance by them for the most part.
