I think we've seen this movie before: A series of bad coaching hires. A fertile recruiting ground now being poached by rivals. A small, increasingly apathetic and non-contributing fan base watching games in a nearly empty off-campus stadium. Lack of commitment from the administration. Young recruits who don't know much or care about a program's heyday 30 years ago. Manhandled in a meaningless bowl game by a pedestrian Big 10 team with a mediocre coach. The U should cut its losses with Richt. It doesn't end well, and they'll end up being the Pitt of the South.

The u put a ton of resources into the hiring of richt who at the time was considered a home run and universally supported by the fans.

Miami and pitt and 3 and 4 respectively in football spend in the acc only behind clemson and fsu.

That is weird you say they dont get admin support.

They are also building a huge inddor practice facilty and other facility improvements.

Not winning doesn't equal lack of admin support.

Yep, a great coach will win anywhere. Admin supposed is just a bonus

3 points in a bowl game. By by The U
Let that sink in

3 or fewer only been accomplished a couple times since the Big One....

Pitt of course is in that club

It is funny......but these bowl games should be fun. Teams shouldn't be tight. Really nothing is riding on it. Come out, run a friggin triple reverse flea flicker pass. Run jet sweeps and counters. Throw deep. Go for it on 4th downs.

To see these teams come out and play this taught, tight assed Wannyball......don't get it.

Miami suffers from many of the same issues that Pitt does - smaller school in a NFL market. And for a while the admin didn’t invest in the program, so it lost momentum from the hay days.

But they do have a big local recruiting base that Pitt no longer has.

Maybe Richts best days are behind him. Way behind him
Georgia seems to be doing quite fine with him gone
Richt was the problem at Georgia and has never been an elite coach. Once Meyer left Florida the SEC East was diluted and Richt still would lead Georgia to 2-3 regular season losses a year with top 10-15 annual recruiting classes. Richt is exactly who Miami should’ve expected he’d be; a mediocre coach who gets quality recruits only thanks to the name/brand of the institution.

Richt went 9-4 in 2016 and 10-3 last year. He had a really bad year this year and the talk is he;s going to revamp their entire offensive system starting with bringing in an OC and surrendering playcalling duties. Obviously they need to bring in a couple of QBs too.

I think it's a bit premature to call him a bad hire.

The key is bringing in a competent qb.

Other than the obvious comparison of playing off campus in an NFL stadium. The comparisons end there.

South FL and Western PA recruits are no where near on the same level.

Richt has been a decent hire and overachieved in his first 2 seasons.

Hard Rock stadium attendance has been better in recent years with the renovations and the team winning.

Pitt and Miami have had the same main problem for years:

Lack of a difference-maker at QB. Miami's list of QBs since Ken Dorsey is gross. Hard to believe they've had such trash at that position.

Same with Pitt.

I’ve defended the bowl concept numerous times before, but one issue is that the games take pkace about a month after the regular season ends. That throws off a lot of things
It’s why I’m often hesitant to place too much focus on the results of said bowl game

That has hardly been the “main problem” with either program.

And Brad Kaaya was a perfectly good college QB.

I remember people saying this in the mid to late 90's. Since then, our best teams have barely beaten their worst teams and more often than not they've bashed our brains in.

A few years ago folks were comparing Clemson and Pitt....not anymore.

Brad kaya was pretty good. If he would have stuck around last year i think that team could have done something special.

It's not that hard to believe. Look no further than the NFL. Eight or nine teams have good QBs, the other 23 or 24 don't. It's a tough position to play.

I called it correctly!
