The Zoo should be commended for not storming the court

A lot of other schools would've.

You can be a maniacal fan base that intimidates the opposition without ever setting foot on the floor.

Congrats, Zoo.

Pitt has had many bigger wins than today and never stormed the court.

I happened to turn on the Vandy- Kentucky games at the end last night and was greatly amused by the Vandy students storming the court after beating an 8 loss Kentucky team.

It's kind of a thumb your nose thing now. "Wow, you thought your team was hot sh$t, we've beaten better, you can pick up your stuff and go home now".

What's funny is I never even THOUGHT about that. It just doesn't and should never happen at the Pete.

It will never happen at The Pete. The Zoo is too classy for that nonsense and we have beaten a lot of top 5 teams before and never stormed the court. We've been there before. The teams that haven't, will storm the court (see Vandy, WVU, etc.).

Court Storming's I can comprehend and understand. Robert Morris after beating Kentucky.

But you guys are right, a Power 5 conference team, especially one that goes to the tourney a lot storming the court against a name team, but especially one that is not Top 10 let alone Top 5?? No way.

I am glad the Zoo didn't stoop to this.

FYI to everyone who thinks not storming is a decision by the Zoo: it's not up the students. The building security is ruthless in keeping students off the floor. It's not about being too "classy." It's not about principle. It's not about the Zoo feeling they are "above" a storming. It's just not allowed.

Yes, because other schools' security allows students on the floor?
Please. The Zoo definitely chooses not to storm. Both ends of the court have a pole and curtain preventing them from storming. That's it. It's not even been attempted before by students. There is simply never been enough security to stop 1100 kids from getting on the court if they wanted to. The Zoo doesn't storm.

To your first question, yes, they do. They absolutely do.

"It's not even been attempted before by students." Yes, it has. I've been there, I've seen it. I've seen people get socked in the gut for trying.

You don't think that a security guard assaulting a Pitt student would merit a little more attention than urban legend on a message board do you?

Bottom line, if the students en masse truly wanted to get on the floor, there isn't a thing Pitt can do to stop them, short of 100 guards with billy clubs ringing the floor.

What you are describing sounds like two drunk dudes tried to get on the floor and got caught.

Listen to Static - he's a wise man.

storming the court is dumb I agree. Still love fans bringing down coal posts though, that never gets old.. It would be the equivalent of fans in hoops storming the court and cutting down the nets, that would be funny..

Whatever. Choose to live under the Penn State style delusion that Pitt is just "too classy" and "above that."

It's not that at all. It's about common sense, knowing that the court is for the players and the stands are for the fans, and making sure dumb kids don't get hurt.

Seriously - what are you talking about? You sound like you were right there, so what game exactly?

I sit right behind the Zoo and have been there for almost every home game since it opened, definitely every big game and never, ever saw any student try to get on the court. Ever. Including the win of #1 UConn in 2009.

You are not correct in your thinking.

Have you read this thread? How can you say it isn't about that? That's exactly what's being said. That's exactly what YOU said!

When I say students, I mean the collective group of the Zoo. I'm not counting one or two drunk assholes trying to get on the court. If even one SECTION had tried, they'd get on the court. There's simply not enough security to stop them. It's 200 kids versus at the ABSOLUTE MOST 7-8 security guards. The logic of what you're saying doesn't add up.

I was at virtually every Pitt game from 2009 through 2013, including victories over I think at least 3 top 5 teams. Court was never in danger of being stormed, ever. When I was a leader from 2011-2013, I even looked for the court ends to make sure it wasn't happening, and it never was.

Hello?

It doesn't look like you get it. Yes, I said the Zoo was too classy for that nonsense. And that is true. But that isn't the reason the court isn't stormed. The rest of my response is the real reason.

2007 when Ramon hit the buzzer beater against WVU was the closest I ever saw. A bunch of kids in my section, 2nd half Pitt basket got tossed down by security
