They just got a new AD, right? Their previous AD left for Miami (FL).
When the AD that hired a HC leaves, and things aren’t going well for the HC, it can make for problems for the HC. Mack is now working for a person who didn't hire him. So he’s not in a real strong position.
I would hire Mack in a heartbeat. Really good coach, kind of a dickhead though. Just didn't work out at Louisville

But the Louisville AD that hired Mack is also gone. They currently have an interim AD, Josh Heird.

Why do people think a guy with 10x the fan support, 5x the resources and 100x the brand name failed at Louisville will be successful at Pitt? Think people
It’s not even that. They make around 30 million per year in hoops. MAKE. They have 2 dedicated strength coaches. They have 27k fans at every game or something ridiculous like that. A rich history. One of the best rivalries in the sport. They’re gonna hire Bruce Pearl or Nate Oats and be a top 3 team in ACC within 3 years.
And the guy who couldn’t win with all of that… is gonna win at Pitt!?
Louisville Basketball is too important to that area/school to mess around. They’re about to drop a brinks truck on someone’s front yard to get that program rolling. If the rumors about Pearl are true, that’s a grand slam hire.
He would follow the Louiville tradition of having coaches with "dirty laundry."

He was a 2 seed before Covid canceled the NCAAT. Had 2 10 day Covid pausez last year and still had a decent record. This year was one of those years.
This is also why I think you guys are way too hard on Miller. He won at an extreme rate at a program who is a mirror immage of Louisville. Didn't advance past his seed line much but won a ton of games. Mack couldn't do that at a place you'd think everyone should win at due to the resources.
One former Xavier coach won a ton at a near-blue blood. The other got fired quickly at a near-blue blood for lack of winning
And yet their winning percentages in conference games at those schools weren't really all that different.
I wouldn't have fired Mack. I wonder if it has more to do with Dino Gaudio and some recent comments by players.
