Pittsburgh is an NBA type city that shows up to watch stars and not teams. We need more Jordan Whiteheads.

Sell beer and mixed drinks

Don't worry about offending family with kids. This has been Pitt's problem for 20 years. Sporting events are not supposed to be family friendly to create a home field advantage. Remove bouncy houses out front and get a band with beer trucks to create a gathering before game. Take tailgaters money by being better than a parking lot.

Do not worry about fans who complain it's not a family atmosphere. Give it a try for a few years, see what happens and you can always go back to the bouncy houses. I know this advice will not be taken so I suggest that you now use the current visitor section and the new seats under the scoreboard as the " new family fun section". No beer, concessions targeted at kids like vendors with Popsicles on hot days and hot chocolate on cold days. Have Roc show up often, have clowns in that open area with concessions making balloon figures for the kids, etc.... It would be the family friendly opposite of the other 80% of the adult section.

The visitors now have the upper deck in the closed end and they have the best view of the skyline. We see it all the time so we can live without it. I have always scratched my head why the visitor's section is where it is. That upper deck now serves as a tarped area on the sections that go unsold. Just call the seats General Admission and let the visitors fill them in depending when they arrive.

The reason we sometimes have a dead atmosphere is people are too concerned about yelling, standing, being obnoxious because we are too polite around kids. While this is kind, it is not loud and it isn't a home field advantage.

There are 6 kids under 10 that sit with my large group and we are all in agreement of what I am saying. The world has become so politically correct that it leaves little room to be obnoxious and a little inappropriate. Again, make a family section to avoid the adult behavior. Maybe the kids won't make it to the game and that is fine. Kids honestly do not become real fans of understanding the game and strategy until they are 8 at the youngest but likely closer to 11. When a kid is about 12, they are pretty smart and have heard all the bad words. I am talking about keeping kids home that really have not formed future bonds to Pitt. Again, you can always switch seats to family section and go on the preferred list to upgrade when that time comes to being in the adult sections again.

Create a home field advantage with variables that can be controlled.

Pitt may lead the country for Thursday and Friday games played. This just does not work because Pitt fans generally are allergic to the concept. Avoid these slots. Play Miami Saturday night even if it means ESPN 3.

Beer might increase revenue a little, but I don't see it raising attendance much. I think they've tried everything else. I'd try re configuring the seating bowl and contract the capacity for most games by limiting the ticket supply.
When the team peaks out from the tunnel on entrance, it literally looks like no one there but the ushers.
The ACC has to play some Thurs,Fri and Pitt has to get some. They've asked no Fri home games, (they really don't count Black Friday) so they're gonna get a Thurs at home here and there.

Enough of the loud, horrible music. I've seen dozens of people holding their ears to block out the NOISE. Music it isn't. It would be nice to talk to the person next to you between plays.

There needs to be hype around the team. Not to take anything away from Boyd, but when we had Larry people went to the games to watch him. We knew and the opposing teams knew he was the best player in the country. Also, during that time we were preseason ranked as well.
A couple years of winning and contending for the ACC title will do that as well. People aren't just going to flock to the games this year because we we were pace to win 9 games. The ACC was out of reach 2 weeks ago.
Selling beer at cames and changing the location for the visiting teams is like putting new furniture on the titanic while It was sinking.

Actually, inappropriate behavior is now accepted more than ever. We've become a lowest common denominator society. I blame Billy "White Shoes" Johnson for popularizing the showboat stuff. And MTV, of course. ;)

It is a boring subject. The stadium is too big. Simple as that. Too big. So unless they figure out how to make a right sized stadium on campus, they have to figure out how to make Heinz "right sized". Seeing a few people over here, over there, up there, back up here, down there, in that section over across there, etc....they need concentrated into fewer sections.

Beer, ticket giveaways, it ain't gonna happen. This town just isn't a college football town.

Right. Not an an issue for GT, BC, TCU, Miami, Minnesota and Baylor.. who ALL play in stadiums that seat between 45,000-55,000 seats...... You put yesterday's crowd in BC or TCUs stadium, and it looks FINE. Enough! That is all it is-- PERIOD.

One note. Pitt has never played a Friday home game EXCEPT the day after thanksgiving, which is essentially a weekend day and does not compete with high school sports at all.

I agree!! I have 4 season tix in the 205 Club. My wife and I went with my brother and his wife. My brother and I have been going to games since we were born. Within minutes of the game starting I was asked if I could restrain from any innappropriate language because small kids were present. I said I will do my best, but can't make any promises. I sit in the back row so I can stand up most of the game. I pay for the club seats so I don't have to binge drink at the tailgate. But frankly I drink during the entire game. That's what I paid for. Sometimes I need to drink more depending on what is taking place on the field. Regardless, we cheer and get into the game and you look around and everyone is sitting there like they are at the movies. I have always been one to think that sporting events should be raucous. I think people that expect everyone around them to be "movie-watchers" because they brought their kids into basically a bar in nonsense.

One note. Pitt has never played a Friday home game EXCEPT the day after thanksgiving, which is essentially a weekend day and does not compete with high school sports at all.
Pitt has made statements that they will avoid fri night games at home. Pederson I think, maybe long. I like that stance. Avoid fri night at all costs

Yep. Pitt can fill the place for a Notre Dame or Penn State game, but beyond this, a 45,000-50,000 capacity would create an improved atmosphere each week. It won't happen, but when the Women's National Team played at Heinz Field, they didn't even sell upper deck tickets on the west (home) side of the stadium. That forced everyone onto one side and gave the appearance of a larger crowd.

1. Relocate the Steelers to a different city.
2. Relocate the Pens and Pirates as well.
3. Expand Pitt's undergraduate enrollment to 40,000.

This is the ONLY combination that will ensure great crowds every week.

I get the comparison but it's ironic because generally Pittsburghers are very anti-NBA.

Shrink the capacity a la the Oakland Raiders via eliminating the end zone bleachers with a tarp. Maybe eliminate a section or two in side upper deck reducing capacity to about 55K. When the seats are updated, make the club gold and the rest charcoal. Consistently win 8+ regular games. Done.
