Uh, overall we looked not too bad... mainly Robinson, Young, Slim and Jones.... but there are still major areas where we need IMPROVEMENT if we are gonna be the team we should be. Here's a list:
As the season progresses other teams get better so if you don't, you will get left behind. Also, would be nice to deal with these ACC teams like we dealt with the teams in the OBE.
No?
Oh... yeah... unless we come out sluggish against St Joe's due to jet lag.... probably only the first 10 minutes are gonna be significant. At least that's the way it should be.
- The C position. ANO only played 4 minutes due to getting into foul trouble, so we don't know how well he is gonna be with more extended minutes. Then there was Luther, who plays hard but was getting beat in every possible way by the Zag bigs. Once they realized they could beat him every time down the court well, that is how they got a lead back. Maia? Worse than Luther. So, this one is VERY unresolved.
- Jeter. Only played 4 minutes and the question is if Dixon took him out due to bad D. In training camp Dixon said he had 'separated himself' from the rest of the players and it sure didn't look that way Friday. So, another one 'to be determined'. (e.g. is he gonna be a good player for us this year or not?)
- Backup to Robinson. Milligan did not look bad but didn't do much. Wilson didn't play due to injury. The key thing here is getting good enough bench play spelling Robinson so Dixon doesn't have to play him 35 minutes a game and have him run out of gas like he did last year. Another item to keep an eye on.
- Overall D. Overall the D looked better than last year. Mainly aggressive play by players like Slim and Jones if you ask me. But, there was a fair amount of switching off and the like... and the hedging did not look that good at all. Uh. Still a work in progress. Hopefully Dixon doesn't go back to the switchoff 1-5 D he used last year or we may end up as bad defensively as we did last year.
- Jamel Artis at SF. Only played 4 minutes due to foul trouble and only scored 1 point. Is this gonna work or not? IMO, might not happen until the team needs Jamel to take the bull by the horns, as happened last year. Another one to keep an eye on.
- Smith, Jones and Slim. All three of these players looked good, but more progress is needed. With Smith, just a matter of fully integrating into the team. Jones, just needs to be more consistent. Slim, more experience.
- Mike Young. The only thing here is if had hit a few more of the shots he did not finish, he would be in 'Wiltjer' class offensively. Yeah, no problem for MY at PF.
- Robinson. Looked good. Will it continue or will he run out of gas?
