Everything bad came together.

1st drive Int.

Phantom holding call on big Reid run.

Holstein injury.

Dropped passes. Bad spots.

Negative momentum just took over.

But that pass to Reynolds against WVU where the DBs ran into each other like stooges wasn't a fluke?

Cincy batching a chance to add 3 at the end of the first half wasn't a fluke?

A deep pass to Mumpfield that wasn't even intended for him against UNC wasn't a fluke?

Cal missing a chip shot wasn't a fluke?

No argument from me on that.

But they were among a handful of plays that always determine games.

This beat down is different. That is why I am calling it a fluke.

When you get blown out this badly towards the end of season that you you started 7-0 then its completely on the coaching staff. The have lost the locker room mainly because they have completely been outcoached most of the season. The players look lifeless and sloppy. Probably because they don't believe they can win anymore.

Play them in two weeks guarantee you it is not the same result.

Downhill momentum becomes overwhelming.

Agree, but not like this.

We were ahead of Clemson with less than 2 minutes to go.

It is in there, just not today.
You are what your record says you are. Pitt is looking like a 7-6 team, and likely wouldn't have won half of those games with the team currently on the field.

This game is heading towards being one of the most ignominious losses in Pitt history.

Bowling Green opener in 2008

UCF 2018

All worse. But this is definitely top 10

There are no flukes just like there are no coincidences. In sports, you play or perform to the level of your ability or inability.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Even if Holstein throws a TD on the first possession and doesn't get hurt, Pitt wasn't going to beat Louisville. Considerable talent advantage for the Cards.
Definitely agree. In fact, is there an ACC team that we can clearly say we are more talented than?? I know there is not a single ACC team that has a worse offensive line than Pitt. There is likely no P4 team in all of college football with a poorer line.

I think maybe we should look at the bright side. This team had the talent to repeat last year's 3-9 record. It has clearly overachieved by winning 7. Doesn't really matter that they won them in succession before smashing back to reality.

Honestly, there probably isn't.

There's a lot of parity in college football. Without question, I think Pitt is in the bottom half of the ACC in terms of talent. But there really isn't a lot of difference in any of those teams. It's literally any given Saturday.

Do we lose that game if Holstein finishes?
Maybe if he plays WR and does not drop all of those passes from Yarnell, or plays some Dline and makes some tackles, but if he stays at QB, and continues to have no ability to read or even see the defense , he is losing just like he has been

I thought he made good reads today. The INT was an easy TD if he just gets some air under it. He's gotta make that throw.

not sure because I didn't record it but that "phantom" holding call looked like our center was hugging the Louisville kid

I know the announcer went off about it being wrong but frankly they're very often at best idiotic with their judgement calls

But it’s not significant enough to lose this bad. Any argument contrary is just providing coverage for a coaching staff that needs to be better before we start discussing talent gaps
