This is a really bad day for pitt

I'd love to be proven wrong on this. There are other coaches that can come in and succeed at Pitt. But finding one is a late in the shot clock James Robinson NBA range three. It's just not a high percentage shot.

Hoping the next coach can get pitt to the point Dixon/howland got pitt, but that isn't very likely.

Thanks for all you did here coach, and best of luck. Hopefully it works out for both pitt and Dixon.

Dude, I was far from a JD basher and before today wanted him to stay. But your overly dramatic view of this is pathetic. Pitt is in far better shape that you think and they now have money and an AD who knows what hes doing. This will work out well for Pitt. Also JD didn't set the bar all that high the last five years.

Uh its perfect timing...................not late at all.

And you are greatly overestimating pitt's position. I have zero confidence things will get better under a new coach ( I reserve the right to change that after seeing the hire) and am just hoping pitt can stay at the same level it is now.

Pitt is not a destination school. It is much more on par with Georgia tech than duke.

I just hope this doesn't turn pitt into an acc bottom feeder.

No, I don't think so. The Pitt hiring of Howland almost 20 years ago was a shot in the dark, a calculated risk. We had bad facilities, were in the cellar, and not a lot of money to spend...we had to take a bit of a long shot. Now we have great facilities, money, and a program that, while a little diminished, has been at least moderately successful for a while. All of those things diminish risk and make the hiring of another successful coach more of a sure thing.

It is sad. He was great here. But coaches don't stay this long for a reason. Sometimes it's best to just split ways. The coaches that do stay this long have been to the Final Four. So it is sad but it had to happen. Hopefully it works out for coach and for Pitt.

When Majors left people thought the world ended but we wound up with Sherril . Not too shabby. The future can be bright

People thought PC was the best we can do in Football. Who ever thought VT would be able to get Curly? Come on man step off the ledge. Pitt has very good facilities, plays in a great conference, and is willing to pay top 15 money.... And we finally have an AD who is not a cancer and total incompetent. This is going to work out very well for Pitt

Pitt is like GT in many ways I assure you living here in GA scratching my head over the apparent euphoria of some Pitt "fans" over this news... It's like the direct opposite of the Page jam over GTown which is my starting spot of the era of great Pitt hoops...

Sorry that would be a fair comparison to when Howland left if you are being honest...as far as football we all know what happened after Sherill left

Very sad day for Pitt. We lose the best coach we've had for decades and the best coach in any sport at Pitt. Best of luck, Jamie. You deserve only the best and I am now a TCU hoops fan. My only hope is that Pitt can get someone half as good as Jamie at this point.

And pitt hired narduzzi, an unproven assistant who is still unproven to a great degree. That really needs to stop being used as a talking point as to why pitt will make a great hire.

Pitt might make a great hire, but there is going to have to be a degree of luck like with howland.

Well the administration did awesome getting Nard Dog as HC for football, I actually have faith they will do the same in BBall

THANK G-D Smiley is gone!

It's the end of an era for sure.

Hopefully, the guy we select will be able to continue what Dixon created. It won't be simple, but it can be done.

Well I'm glad Barnes is running the search and not you.

I'm sure he's confident, and has a list. He's not just shooting from the hip. Otherwise, he would not have let Dixon move on when he could have easily kept him here.

No euphoria here, I loved Dixon. But it is time for a change.

The comparison to GT isn't right. Pitt is challenged with getting attention and high attendance in football because it has to compete with the Steelers. For basketball though, Pitt is the only show in town. GT has to compete with an NBA team.

take that man's shoelaces.

As I said in another thread and I'll say again:

If Jamie Dixon wanted to be here, he'd still be here. That's it, the end.

Time for all to move on. Capiche?

Based on what? One year??? We're still not sure how good of a hire Narduzzi is. Let's see if he can win 9+ games this year and make progress.

I'll wait and see what candidates Pitt is considering to replace Dixon. But at this point, it is very depressing to see the best coach we have in any sport leave. I don't have much confidence that Barnes will find someone to even come close to the level of a coach that Dixon was. At best, my support of Pitt basketball now will be luke warm. It just doesn't excite me to think that the next Pitt coach might be some assistant from a losing program that wants a head coaching gig. It's going to have to be a big name, big splash hire for me to get interested again. That means a big name, current head coach.

Look, Jamie WAS a good HC who had gone stale and complacent. His time at Pitt has been over for a couple years. I wish him the best, but if we can be honest, it was time for us both to part ways.

People are delusional if they think Pitt is going to go anywhere but down now. I laugh at all the comparison to the new football coach, who has done NOTHING, but somehow he's a savior here and an indication that Pitt is not just a stepping stone job now.
