This is like ncaa tourney Pitt

Yeah except these guys are all either young or shouldn’t be on an ncaa roster. So I can’t beat them up as much as those great Dixon teams who should have won more in the tournament

I wouldn’t go that far. Brown would be an awesome complement player to a good center to come in and bang. We have some players, just young as you said. We don’t have a roster full of 4,5 stars like UNC

Just really poor shooting

It’s a good point. Other than McGowans and Johnsonthe rest of the roster would be good bench players. Unfortunately because of the previous regime they are playing more than than they should.

Exactly - too much pressure on themselves and killed the shooting. Too tight.

Would otherwise have been competitive but still a was to go

Not going back and rewatching but I counted atleast 20-25 misses inside the paint. Make half and it's a single digit game. These young guys will learn to finish as the season goes on. Tough game today but I'd rather lose by 25 and watch the team play hard for 40 minutes than anything we witnessed last year.

I'll cut the young guys a little slack for not finishing because they don't have a complimentary frontcourt. Tjhe Panthers did a good job of penetrating; howvever, the problem is that UNC wasn't worried about leaving Kene/Brown to confront them. It's difficult for any guard to finish under those circumstances. UNC had length/size and athleticism all over the court--a lot of other ACC teams don't present this challenge.

Too many relative easy layups were missed because the ball was awkwardly "thrown at the hoop instead of shot.

That's true Gary, but the second part of the equation is why. We "missed because the ball was awkwardly thrown at the hoop" as you sated...for a reason. The very big, talented, and experienced tar heels didn't just try and take an offensive charge as many of our inferior OCC opponents did. They either blocked our shots inside, or forced us
into those "awkward" misses that you mentioned. It didn't happen by accident.
They totally affected what we were trying to do. Our best players are freshmen.
Their inside guys had their way with us, as many of us expected.
I wasn't disappointed at all by our play. We have three ACC level guys, who
unfortunately are freshmen. None of those three would start for NC, but Johnson
would play a lot IMO. I expected energy and intensity, and we gave that. I like what
Capel is doing and am not at all disappointed by today.

We missed a lot of those inside shots because of NC's inside presence. When you
eat a few inside, as happened a lot early in the game. When you have a lay
up sent back in your face and it ends up several rows in the stands, THAT sends
a message. It's called intimidation. Well, I like our guys' guts and admit we might
not have been "intimidated"....but, and it's a big BUT, I'm pretty certain we were
looking and thinking as we drove. That affects your shot. If anyone here ever played
this game, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Disagree - Brown missed an easy dunk and Ellison missed at least three layups because he was wild. McGowens and Johnson too though not as bad. On too many shots we had little body control.

Much like the WVU, too many times today we abandoned any team concept. A player simply put his head down and drove to the hoop with no visualization of what he wanted to do with the ball when he got there. That was the main reason for the awkward throws at the basket. Ellison even made one.

Ok...we disagree, no problem. Those things happen in a game like this. It
was an opponent with far more talent, far more experience, and IMO they
forced us into these errors and "awkaward" shots. Their D on the outside
was so good, that those "head down and no visualization" drives that
you're referencing occurred because we didn't have much left after being
stymied in our offense. We made a few, but they forced into those situations.
If you think this is bad....wait till we play Virginia, a team that plays suffocating D.

When you step up in class the game gets faster and that little millisecond you no longer have against bigger faster guys makes you rush making you look awkward. Consequently you miss shots you wouldn’t against lessor opponents .
Last season it took PS awhile to get comfortable shooting the ball , but he adjusted as the season progressed. Think they don’t miss him !

I don’t
He wanted to play for his dad at a much lower level

I know we disagree, but I am coming back for one last bite of the Apple:

This game was not like our WVU game where we were mostly fundamentally sound but just had our shots blocked or altered. It was not like old Louisville games, where their length and athleticism made it stupid to even attempt getting to the rim.

This games layups were more like our recent close losses. Trey had has man beat versus Iowa and didn't know what to do with it. X had the layup for the win against Niagra and didn't finish.

UNC is tall. They are not scary athletic with their height. I still believe that our missed layups were mostly due to our lack of composure.

LOL...You just love that "apple." Ok, your points make sense, the difference in what
we're saying is that even though UNC isn't known for great defense, they did have
far superior talent and experience on the inside yesterday. We ate a few inside early.
That plays with your mind a little and affects what you do later. The shot that Frame
took and had it swatted into the bleachers is another example. You do a few of
those to a team and they start to "think" about it next time. In fact we were
probably overthinking. Those awkward shots that you previously mentioned were
IMO a result of the effect that UNC's Bigs had already asserted on us.
What bothered me about all of this was that the previous few games we were
beating em of the dribble, getting into the lane and dishing off instead of
forcing it to the rim (you even mentioned this in your recent post). However,
yesterday we were back to forcing those shots. UNC didn't try and take charges,
they altered our shots. Maybe not the trajectory, but certainly the way were
forced to shoot them. Thus the Awkwardness that you referred to.

Tell you what....I'm on record now saying that this won't be as much of a problem
in out next game. We'll probably still lose (hope not). We'll undoubtedly be
taken advantage inside again, but the drives and what we do with them will
be less of a problem IMO. Capel will work this out in practice, and I believe
we'll play a little calmer...intense but not so "amped up."
