where so many or most of these games are pure duds.

The Michigan/Ohio State game has cache (can you guys please move into the 21st Century and stop playing this at Noon????? It is meaningful and should be a good one.

Alabama/Auburn? Meh.
USC/ND? Meh.
Washington/Wazzou? Probably the second best, Wazzou is playing for a Pac 12 title and outside playoff shot.
UVa/VT? Meh.
Ole Miss/Miss State? Meh.
Clemson/South Cakalaky? Meh.
Florida/FSU? Meh.
UNC/NC State? Blah.
Arizona/ASU? Meh.
Oregon/Oregon State? FU Scott Barnes.

I mean, I can't remember the last time so many of these games were so meaningless.

You forgot the classic PSU-Maryland tilt!

Have they given it a name yet? The "Mason-Dixon Melee" perhaps?

To the OP,

I agree and consider this a spinoff of the Alabama effect, rendering much of CFB meaningless and by extension, little anticipation of what is the best weekend for football all year.

Yep, conferences, their champ games, and the playoff have diminished or even eliminated most of them. Miami is at least credible for Pitt.

Harvard Yale aka The Game was better than the likes of this crap...

Wonder what book bfo8 (??) would’ve made 5 yrs ago on UCF/Fresno St being the best CFB TEAMS in Cali/Fla

I don't buy any of the "this is a result of the greater demise of college football". Plain and simple, this year one team seems significantly better than the other in most of these games. At least this year there are 4-5 games with major playoff implications. But most of these rivalries don't ever really draw too much national attention.

UVA vs VTech?? When has anyone ever given a shit about this game? Tech has won 14 straight and 5 of them by 30+.

UNC vs NCState in football? In basketball maybe, but who schedules their day around this game outside of their fanbase? At least the games have been close in recent history.

Completely agree.
I remember years when there were 4-5 great games.
I was looking forward to Oklahoma / WVU but since the Hillbillies choked last week the game has lost its luster.
Maybe Auburn or Ohio State will upset? - I doubt it.
Could be a dud weekend
At least we got the Pitt game.

I am not saying this is the "demise", but I am saying it is a weird year. Plus this IS partly result of the conference shuffling over the past decade or so, which cost us:
Texas/A&M
Nebraska/Oklahoma
Pitt/WVU

Among others.......

Nebraska vs Colorado on Black Fridays wasn’t bad

To be honest with the saturation of college football on tv nowadays, most games are duds unless your team is playing in them.

Pretty bad college football season overall, especially when compared to last year. Not many marquee matchups, not many close games. This week is no exception.

Yep. This same point was also made for NFL attendance woes. With dozens of games available most weeks these rivalry games are anticlimactic

The bolded games are huge to those fanbases and the nation if upsets occur. The WA game not too much for the nation though

I really think Michigan will expose osu's lackluster team and lays it on them this weekend. Harbaugh is due and this is the perfect storm for them and not osu. Michigan is playing it's best under harbaugh and osu has beaten noone
