* I don't think they're purposely running the ball so much b/c they're dinosaurs. I just don't think they have any faith in their QB's and WR's. I think they believe Izzy is a great back and riding him is really the only way to win games. Vinny is now in the doghouse b/c rule #1 is, don't make mistakes on offense. for the QB's, Slovis, to them, has the highest floor. Don't make mistakes. Don't throw picks. Just keep handing off and then throw a pass on 3rd and 8 when needed.
* I also don't think they have a ton of faith in their defense. We can't get to the QB like we have in past years. And we can't stop the run the way we did in the past years. Those two are the hallmarks of the Pat Narduzzi defense. What we're NOT seeing is the traditional gashing of the secondary. The patented 65 yard touchdown pass where DB's are looking at each other, not knowing why or how it happened. This defense is the polar opposite of our other years under PN. So what does PN do about all of this? All PN knows - run the ball and keep the defense off the field as much as possible.
* I think they also know the punting is not good. They believe they can't change personnel, though. This was a HUGE mistake by the staff to get to this point. They should never have a foreign freshman handling this - t's just too much change. Not that I'd want a US based freshman punter, either. I'm sure they're trying their damndest but whatever it is, isn't working. Kind of surprised there haven't been more 4th down attempts.
* Injuries are definitely a part of the offensive philosophy as well. Only had 3 WR's they had ANY faith in yesterday's game. Are the younger guys that bad? Going back to my first point, I think it says more about their confidence in Slovis, which I think is almost zero that he has the ability to win a game through passing.
* As a fan, this offense is difficult to watch. Can Izzy get 300 yards every week? No. But the rest of the schedule is pretty bad. Can he get enough to outscore the opponents? Possibly. But can he touch the ball 36 times per games? No way. With Davis in the doghouse, we really need Hammond back. The staff obviously don't think enough of the other RB's at this point.
* Speaking of, why was Cbo returning kickoffs? I was wondering this and Pat actually said it on the broadcast - Cbo isn't a returner. Why isn't MJ back there? Or someone else. I'm sure all of the WR's returned kicks in high school. But again, I don't think they have confidence in these guys.
* I wonder how Nate is in practice. We have a one game sample size but he looked so much more poised and decisive versus Slovis. Maybe it just doesn't show up in practice. I THINK PN doesn't want to chance it knowing that Slovis at least probably isn't going to lose the game for you.
