With the latest turn of events, I've come to the conclusion that I'll be dead before football and basketball returns, if ever, to greatness. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, but our floundering programs give me no reason for optimism, and I'm a reasonably optimistic guy. I'll always be a Pitt man, but this is so hard to digest.

It's tough out there unless you are a blue blood. Programs will have their ups and downs. We got to enjoy a great 15 or so run there, and I do think with time, maybe it won't hit that long of a sustained run in the future, but I think we can be good again. 90% of programs go through this. Again, it's extremely difficult.

That's why if you are a fan, enjoy what is going on in volleyball, soccer, baseball, etc because we are not bluebloods in those sports as well, and it is only a matter of time before our time is up and another non blue blood takes our place.

The only silver lining for me is that, as a Pittsburgh sports fan, I've been lucky with the professional sports teams. I love Pitt but at this point in my life, any success is just icing on the cake. Doesn't hurt that I went to Pitt during the 90s so my baseline is pretty low. But a lifetime of rooting for teams that lose a lot has made me immune to getting too wrapped up in the emotions of it.
