On at least one of the calls on Haas, he made clear contact with his elbow/forearm with Ododa's head. I'm sure it wasn't intentionally a flagrant foul, but it coud have been called as one.
We've had a thread running on defense and the new rules interpretation to minimize contact. Haas just fell victim to that. Ododa simply played close enough to him that his arm or shoulder plowed into Ododa's head when he turned. It was probably just incidental contact but whenever somebody gets hit in the head with an elbow, a foul is likely to be called.
The tighter calls hurt Purdue in the first half and helped Pitt get back in the game but probably benefited them in the last 8 minutes when Pitt was trying to catch up again.
There are simply going to be a lot of WTF calls until both the zebras and the players work out what is now a foul and what isn't.
