This season is a failure for Pitt AND

I’m curious and not being snarky. What’s your definition of a failure? Not playing to your seed? Not winning it all?

Certainly a MAJOR disappointment for Virginia but I can’t agree at all their season was a failure.

Not only not living up to expectations, but not even coming close to expectations. Hell Pitt was horrible but everyone knew they would be. UVA was a projected Final Four team and got their butts kicked by the 16 seed. Their season was a failure and will be looked back at as a failure.

Honestly they could have lost their next game to K-St by 40 & they would still have been wayyy above Pitt this year but now...idk being the first 1 seed to ever lose to 1 16 is HORRIFIC.

If you thought UVA was going to the final four that was your first problem. Losing today was absolutely shocking, but they didn't have the talent to make the final four.

Most of the big time prognosticators had them winning the title, not just getting to the Final Four. I agree with you on their talent. I wonder if UVA fans are just going to be satisfied with a perennially dominant regular season team that perennially chokes in the NCAA's, or will they start to get restless and make things uncomfortable for Bennett.

-I would not want any part of Virginia's season this year. They are the first 1 seed ever to lose to a 16. They are going to be the new marketing bracket buster ad for every future commercial moving forward, and I hated it when it was Nasir Robinson and Pitt loses to Butler in that spot. And everyone is going to know this is the worst loss / biggest upset in all time tournament history. No thanks, anyone that wants Virginia's season after this, you can have it. Id rather be Pitt then have that monkey on my back for a long, long, long time

Not saying you’re mistaken, as I don’t pay any attention to those guys, but I’d be very surprised if anyone even remotely sharp picked UVA to win it all.

Those type teams don’t ever seem to win it and I saw nothing different this year.

Although in terms of full disclosure I am holding a ticket on Cincinnati to win it at 50-1, and they’re essentially the same type of team. So I’m a semi idiot as well I guess.

I'd be absolutely shocked if they were as dumb as Pitt. The only reason I think Arizona should part with Miller is because he can't do it with truly elite talent, and at Arizona it's not ridiculous to expect multiple final fours during one coach's tenure. If you're pitt, if you're Virginia, you stick with the guy who wins tons and tons of games and puts you in position to maybe have that one great season.

You can win all the games you want, but a Pitt run to the final four, a Virginia run to the final four, no different than George mason, vcu, etc. If you don't consistently recruit like duke, Kentucky, UNC and those schools they will beat you come march.

People see great coaches lead overachieving teams during the regular season and think all of a sudden those teams are as good as ones loaded with 5 stars. I took Kentucky this year to the final four and it was the most confidence I had in any team in the 4 regions, other than maybe Villanova.

The only exception I can think of off the top of my head was butler. But brad Stevens wasn't just a great coach, he was literally the bill belichick of college basketball. And even he did have Gordon Hayward and Matt Howard, the guy who beat out Gary McGhee for indiana's mr. Basketball.

No. Pitt's fans are the only people with the audacity to aim higher.

If we learned anything from this first week.....it's not going to be as long as you think.

I'd rather be a punch line with 29 wins.

Yeah acc regular and tournament champions-
Failure of a season
Unless Bennett can get them to a Final Four or two in the next few years, this UVA team will eternally be considered the Jean van de Velde of March Madness. This was a really, really bad black eye precisely because of what they accomplished this season before yesterday.

It would be totally delusional to say that loss doesn't tarnish what they did this season,. The images of their well-heeled alums literally weeping in the stands last night as the clock wound down say it all. Pretty sure not a single one of those people gives a damn about the regular season record and ACC championship right about now. Maybe they should, but they don't. Rightly or wrongly, this tournament defines the coaches, the players, and the programs that compete in it. Not just in the eyes of the fans, but in the eyes of the basketball world as well.

Its horrible to lose like that. People posted stuff like this after a couple of our bad tourney exits with Dixon and I've always thought it was stupid. This was a great season with an awful finish. Thats it.

2008 when we won 4 games in 4 days and the BET in the Garden, I was barely upset when they lost in the NCAAs, of course I was disappointed, but to me, the BET was the harder tourney and I was still happy with that season.

I agree, they probably don't. But that's because they are still in the moment of the loss. Once they get a little distance from the loss they (or at least the sane ones) will realize that they did some really good things this season.

I mean we don't all forget about the Big East championships and the big wins over UConn and other because those seasons didn't end with an NCAA championship, do we? Certainly the sane people don't.

We were never a 1 seed losing to a 16 seed by 20 points.

So if that happens your memory of everything else is erased?

This is bad enough for Virginia fans, but it’s a singular occurrence.

Them seeming to implode yearly in the tournament with good teams has a cumulative effect.

I think it’s worse because Virginia almost always underperforms to their seed.

Bennett, like Dixon, a defensive minded coach who has not been able to break through to the final four. Going back to his time at wazzou, he has never beaten a better seed in the tourney, and aside from 2 years the others he has lost to worst seeds, now including the biggest seed upset in tournament history.

I’ll take UVAs failed year any time. To equate the dumpster fire that was Pitts season to UVAs is flat out dumb

Bennett is a great coach who will eventually break through. The tourney involves a lot of luck
