I'm curious how our right-leaning folk on the board view his bid for office.

Smart guy, pretty conservative, articulate, nice family story.

Should do well with evangelicals, younger GOP folks & Tea Party. His Veep choice would be important, as I don't think he'll be regarded as a minority candidate.
Lots of weaker opponents gives him a shot. Team him with Ben Carson, maybe?? Or a lady??

Solid candidate, but one with weaknesses. He's a first-term Senator with no executive experience. After the last one like tat, people may not choose to take the risk.

I don't know, NCPitt, that he has just one weakness. From the cursory scan I've done, he seems pretty hard line when it comes to social issues. I think that will suit him well during the primary-as you note he's popular among the evangelicals-but I can't see that benefitting him when it comes time for a general election. You would need a very, very moderate VP, would be my guess.

Still not sure that he's not just another neocon posing as a libertarian. I'll have to see what his platform is.

Are you willing to take that risk?

An uncompromising right winger and a tea party favorite who states that he wants to represent the conservatives of America.

Forget about the others? Wanted to shut down the government and close the IRS, a radical conservative. His view point will not resonate with Americans.

He will only win if the repubs decide early that the election is a lost cause and decide to give a turn to the right wing purists.

I think this run is no different than when palin, sanatorium, al sharp ton, or some other extremists losers run for president. They are doing it to secure a future on talk shows, book deals and speaking fees not because they think hey will win he presidency.

This guy won't last after a few months when everyone is in the primary.

I didn't say he had one weakness. I said he was one (candidate) with weakness. I just listed one as an example.

As to the general election, several recent polls indicate that people are now looking for the anti-Obama - candidate that not only would undo much of Obama's agenda but also be less divisive. Cruz might be the answer for them.

Not my first choice, but I would look hard at supporting him if nominated.

Yeah, Americans loooove them some IRS.

Funny how the Bamster was elected to bring us all together, take from the rich to help the poor, and fix the economy. 6 years later the nation is on the verge of race riots, Wall Street is back on easy street, and nobody can find a good paying job with benefits.

Nothing is truer than Quinn's first law of liberalism:

1. Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent.

Here is one analysis:

That scorecard is silly. Fundraising isn't all about policy.

Shouldn't be part of the ranking of "conservativeness".

He has a good chance of winning in Iowa.

Remember, Santorum won there and I give Cruz a better chance than would most. He will need to do well in fundraising though, to sustain his run. Perhaps he can ignite the conservatives the way Obama did liberals in 08 and cash in on crowd funding?

Yeah, I misread your first post. Sorry about that.

No problem. I figured that to to be the case with my wording.
